    • Bit disappointed in myself that I haven’t put more on him at 25s but happy enough with that pipe opener, won as he should against that level of opposition

Just ran them through Kinovea from the landing from the first hurdle, to the line on the first circuit they went off around 5 seconds quicker and maintained the deficit comfortably on the second circuit to finish 7 seconds clear. Now obvs Saint Roi did it in a canter so making no comparisons but i would say that Mare has easily ran to mid 130s poss high 130s and thou Mullins might well have better throughout the season if you can run to 140 that's usually good enough for a mares novice so it's a good performance in a true run race. Was impressed with her jumping too very efficient. As he mentioned thou as the ground worsens the questions mark will arise but so far you can't help but be impressed despite her showing her hand early.

        • Watched Saint Roi race back again. He is very similar to Epatante in the way he travels, jumps and instant response when asked to quicken. He is very good.

That’s why the jockey said she was going as fast as she wanted today.
It’s not the trip, it’s the ground he was on about, it was a lightning quick ground for jump times.

            • I was pleased with Saint Roi. Promising start, did it easily, hopefully a lot more to come. 10/1 from 20's which was discussed on here too.

              • Last bit of 12's all gone on Saint Roi. 10's across the board now. Very short for what he's done this far out but clearly Mullins thinks a lot of him. You can hear it in his voice.

RPR gave her 148 which is very good indeed for this time of year.

Yep, i remember the day he was beaten at Thurles he was punted into 1/3f, so he clearly shows up well in his work.

Looking back at previous WKD hurdles, i think i'm right in saying Saint Roi would get 5lbs from Abacadabras

                    OR 151 while Aba's is 158.

Hopefully they meet on the Friday, but wouldn't be shocked to see one of them reorganise their plans

Clearly on all known form Aba should eat him for breakfast but SR looks to have so much more to give and I just think that Aba could be one of those that always finds 1 too good. I'm not saying he downs tools but for me he's likely to get out battled to the line every time in the top races.

I'd agree there, especially with 5pds and fitness on side. Aba's form is rock solid + is amongst the best there is novice-wise, but for me WPM didn't get many novices fully flying last season compared to normal, and i'd say it's probable that he has one or two that will develop into top hurdlers.....one hopefully being Saint Roi!

                        • One small niggle I have about Saint Roi is that he's not very big. Because he was campaigned in an unusual manner, the biggest burden that he's won under is 11st 2lb and I wonder if an extra 8lb, possibly on soft ground, will affect him more than some. In my mind, probably not but it's a consideration when he graduates to G1s.

Yeah I'm possibly guilty of downplaying it a touch given the time of year & 140 could well be valid but if 148 is to be believed your talking a Laurina type mare in the yard to beat her

That is an interesting point, not one that'd crossed my mind.

He hasn't really been in a battle yet either (hasn't needed to) but unless he's a level above, it's something I'd want to see - against Abacadabras would be a great way to test that as well - so fingers crossed for a nice early season clash.

Definitely being plotted at the Champion Hurdle
