  • I’m not sure what people are expecting from Aba to prove his CH credentials. There is little chance with the way the horse runs his races he is going to win by a number of lengths in the run up to the CH. Yesterday crucially proved he can find enough to get his head in front in open grade 1 company. With him fully primed for the CH and a strong pace I just think he’ll travel along side Epatante and whoever else may be there approaching the last and it will just be a question of whether the jockey can leave it late enough to mount his challenge to get in front. His efforts against Shiskin suggest it is a task he will knuckle down to and it will be touch and go whether he can get his head in front at the line. I haven’t backed each way (and has not been a price to do so) but I think he has a great chance of at least placing.

Good point that RC, people are always looking for the perfect bridle horse who travels like a dream and pulls clear effortlessly, they rarely exist.
Probably the best horse in training right now, albeit yet to prove that in open company, is Envoi Allen, he's another who falls asleep during his races, has to be got into, picks up better than any horse but gets lazy when in front.
You want a horse who relishes a battle, Aba you know will fight for you, whether he's actually better than every other hurdler is a separate debate...

Well Saxon, you claim a winning bet is value, period.... so if she only finds 1 too good, that 16/1 1/5 the odds 1-2-3 is profitable and therefore value?

For the sake of the Champion Hurdle as a race, and being the best race it can possibly be, I'd love to see Honeysuckle perform a demolition job in the Irish Champion Hurdle, prove me wrong, and really give her connections the confidence to go here. It would make for a cracking addition to an uninspiring division, and perhaps then I'll wish id taken 16's like all you lot

I do agree with lots of what's said here though - no Epatante and suddenly this race becomes a very attractive option.
20/1 is the cut off usually I'd consider an each way, for me she is an each way horse for the race, because I think she has the class to be involved. She also is guarenteed to be staying on at the end (or not lacking for stamina)....whether she's too far behind to win at that point may come to pass, but will more horses be finishing the race better than her? A Mares Hurdle winner? I'm not sure.... As we can't name loads of horses that'd beat her, I have no issue with her each way, although 16/1 is right on the cusp.

Essentially, I fully expect her to be cut before she runs next, and then I won't regret having 16/1 e/w. It's not unfeasible she goes off 4/1 in a Champion Hurdle....if everything fell into place (big if I know) so all that said, I imagine I'll have this bet cashed out by the day..... I 100% wouldn't back her at 16/1 without cash out, and it is risky as they'll probably suspend quickly as she's high profile...but I've had the little play, and essentially I agree, she won't run or run ... but I think there is an angle to exploit in being wrong.

1.5 pts e.w when I've got almost 600 pts on already though won't make much difference

Probably likely to run as well, looking at that field.

                    • Been looking at the Triumph Hurdle form after seeing Burning Victory fancied by a few on here for the Mares Hurdle and it’s not good reading if you fancy her for that or Goshen/Aspire Tower in this.

Here’s the form since for those in the Triumph:

Fell when 1st - Goshen.. smashed (2 times on the flat)
1st - Burning Victory - Not run since.
                      2nd - Aspire Tower - Won a Grade 2.
                      3rd - Allmankind - Smashed..3rd of 6 then won a class 3
                      4th - Navajo Pass - Smashed.. 5th of 6.
                      5th - Sir Psycho - Smashed (2 times)
6th - Cerberus - Smashed (4 times on the flat)
                      7th - A wave of the Sea - Smashed (5 times from 6)
                      8th - Solo - Smashed.. 4th of 6.
9th - Never Do Nothing - Smashed (2 times on the flat)
                      10th - Lord Lamington - Smashed (3 times)
11th - Hook Up - Not run since.
                      12th - Yellow Tiger - Smashed (3 times)

27 runs between them all since the Triumph.. 3 wins and 24 defeats. Two of which were from A Wave of The Sea and Allmankind in rubbish races. The other being Aspire Tower in the WKD Hurdle.

That's correct. Good spot. Not sure where the 160 came from.

                            • Jason and aba have finished upsides each other twice now, it does give aspires form some substance considering JTM was race fit for the wkd too. Puts AT right in the mix regardless of peoples views on the triumph..

... and I rubbished the form from last years race with Petit Mouchoir finishing so close. I wont jump to conclusions like I did 12 months ago, but JTM (OR 147)
Again, appreciate they went at no pace but Coeur Sublime 6 finished lengths back

Funny when you look back at that so called "weak" champion hurdle last year, it doesnt looks so weak now does it in comparison. Sharjah a 160 horse, and she put 6 lengths between her and the rest of the field from the last to the line, with 3 flicks of the whip and she was gone!
