He has always tried to keep a lid on the expectations and let Jonbon do the talking, that’s how I’ve seen it thus far.

Lets be honest, sometimes it’s hard to answer certain questions when interviewers fire a microphone in your face straight away but I’d say he’s the one he’s bullish about because he’s not been going on as much about him. Yes he’s openly said he’s a very good horse, but compare that to some of the adjectives Henderson tends to use, especially his mares
Haha, to be fair I don't think I have actually seen Hendo talk about either...

Trainer comments talking about high profile horses are pretty much bottom of the list of things I'd factor in. better than stuff I wouldn't factor in, but it's just noise.

Jonbon running in a race that isn't a farce would be ideal. He looks like that'll be no issue at all.

Out of interest, has future plans for him ever been mentioned? Chaser I assume?

Kev here’s an interview from Nicky about his novice hurdlers at the start of the season.

He doesn’t want to say much about Jonbon, starts with just one word answers about him and doesn’t try to hype him up.

Also one thing to note about this is that he mentions 18 novices I think and not one of them is Constitution Hill, read into it what you will.

When he talks about the horses in summary about who will be the best he mentions IAM, Jonbon and Firestep but does mention that he has a very good bunch of novice hurdlers.

He does mention Chasing about them but no specifics for horses

          Agree haha!

Yeah would be good, have to admit though, I’ve been happy jockey has just taken over in both races when they’ve been a bit of a mess. Third hurdle think it was on debut and then after the first at Ascot. Someone setting a pace would be good to see how he travels in behind, see what gears he’s got with a turn of foot in a strong pace.

I’m not sure, tough one. JP loves the champion hurdle, as does Henderson. Hendo also loves his 2m chasers.

I wouldn’t read anything into not mentioning CH - it only won its PTP in April & was bought at the Goffs Spring Sale in May - so in all honesty he wouldn’t have had much to say in those stable tours especially as the horse by all accounts is so laid back - he could however talk about the other novices he’d have seen over the last 12 months or more

That’s a fair point I think all the others had already run for him

fwiw, watching both horses, albeit three races over hurdles between them!! I’m thinking if either were to stay hurdling it would be Jonbon, just looks a real natural 2 miler hurdler to me.
As been said, Hendo loves his 2m chaser and JP loves his champion hurdlers.
Going to be interesting to see how good they turn out to be and where their future lies.

Look , for me, be aware of stats but don’t let them rule everything you do. You’d be able to find a stat to virtually doubt the credentials of any horse in the race - for example How many champion bumper winners have won a Supreme?

                      • A forgotten fact. Older members will remember Ferdy Murphy's French Holly winning the Tolworth before winning at Cheltenham, but not the Supreme, but what was then the Sun Alliance, now the Ballymore. 1998 I think.

Yeah - French Holly, Monsignor & Yorkhill all went on to win the 2m 5 festival race and Noland & Summerville Boy both won the Supreme.

More than those that won the Kennel Gate (the race Jonbon won), in the past 10 seasons (as far as I could be bothered to look).

That said, the Sidney Banks wasn't a race that had produced a Supreme winner (at least in recent seasons), until Shishkin turned up.

It's one thing I do take Henderson on his word for, is getting runs into the horses, I don't think he cares too much where as long as it is suitable.

Given the topic, I presume someone opened the Kennel Gate! Boom Boom!

                                Yeah, both poor trials.
