  • William Hill have priced up Benaud at 25/1 for the triumph hurdle after he finished 4th in the Queen's Vase at Royal Ascot. Had been bought recently by JP.

      …16-1 in their a/r list (14-1 Sky).

      • I'm just having a little look about on the big bad world of the internet and I was looking at Willie Mullins 20/21 stable tour. One of the horses mentioned in it was Bring on the night. Bought from France last year and absolutely nothing heard since. I'm not suggesting I'm going to go in blind backing a horse I have heard nothing of, I'm just wondering if anyone has found something somewhere about plans. It seems strange that WPM put the horse in his stable tour yet there is absolutely nothing out there about the horse since.

          Willie often has 3yo’s that we think will be Triumph horses, that end up being left another year to mature, Echoes In Rain was left for the season after one juvenile run for the stable.

          He could be a decent novice hurdler this year, (4yo going on 5) and the Racing Post stable tour this time round should tell us if he is fit and well along with some general plans for him.

          Willie doesn’t go a bundle on juveniles, he much prefers to start in a novice season if possible.

          • When I looked up the horse and realised that the horse is still going to be a 4 year old by the time of the next festival my first thought was "triumph candidate". Its not really a race I focus on so I'm not sure if it can still even enter that race. Hopefully in the next few months we might get some insight or even see the horse have a run out.

            • No he's a year too old now. This year's juvenile hurdlers are all three and will be four come the Festival.

                ….there is a Sky RaB that might be of interest;

                Belle Metal & Bring on The Night both to win a/r @ 150-1

                • Gaillard Du Mesnil for the RSA stands out @ 25/1. Nothing wrong with being done for toe by Bob in the Ballymore, and I actually thought GDM stuck to the task really well for a horse that travelled so keenly throughout, and then he obviously backed up at Punchestown. We know he goes chasing and WPM has said he probably wants further than 2m5f. On paper he ticks an awful lot of boxes and 25/1 looks like a good one to have onside as I don't think he'd have the speed for the Marsh, and will hopefully be far too good for the NHC.

                    Yeah, he's a good shout Charlie.

                    I thought he was going to be WPM's number one for the RSA (BANC), and backed him accordingly, but wasn't expecting Galopin Des Champs to do what he did at Punchestown.

                    I think both will make very good staying chasers so will be interesting how their seasons are mapped out.

                    • Agree Charlie. Have backed him for Marsh and RSA but he scrambled home over 2 1/2 at Punchestown and, having watched the race again, I think he'd be better off over further. His Leopardstown victory over 2m 6f on testing ground oozed class and played to his stamina strength and Mullins afterwards said it was a proper staying performance. I'm thinking now that Galopin might go Marsh or they could both go RSA. I just don't see GDM going Marsh now. He has plenty of other Novice Chasers to sort out including Appreciate It, Blue Lord, Stattler, James De Berlais and potentially Klassical Dream so lots can happen yet !

                        I've also backed gdm @ 33/1 for rsa and also gdc @ 25/1 for same race, can see wpm splitting them up but both prices appealed !

                          I'm in the same position as you c.o.d. , got them both in the B.A.N.C and big on G.D.M. in the marsh.. Time will tell..

                            • Lots seem to already be on GDM which is good to see. It would be interesting to do an analysis on this but when you consider WPM/HDB/GE collectively win more than 50% of races at Cheltenham (over the last 7 years I think) and couple that with the importance of Cheltenham form, any horse thats finished 1st or 2nd at last year's festival who is 20/1 or more and trained by one of these three is almost certainly a sensible bet. I think GDM is the only one that fits that mould, but he's a good bet at 25/1 because you can be certain that a facile chase debut win will see the bookies scramble to make him single figures.

                              • Can someone who knows more than me (so anyone...) about breeding tell me what they think of Bear Ghylls?

                                I've just been looking over the novice chasers and I remember thinking that this guy has a serious engine. I think he will improve for a fence (can't be any worse than he is over hurdles?!) and he was only half a length behind Bravemansgame in the Ballymore, which given his pretty terrible jumping really wasn't a bad effort at all. If he can learn to respect a fence I think he could be a big player in the Novice Chases
