To be fair to him. I think he knows it needs a trip.
But you're right to question trainer bullshit

Im sorry but i was hoping to watch program and the interview again as i thought i had it recorded - im almost certain gary asked him about aramon and sharjah if they were still lined up for champion hurdle - i heard willie talking about ground improving later on in the week - i assumed he was talking about sharjah but it could have been aramon - i was hoping someone on here would have seen the full interview - sorry i havent got the full facts

Sharjah would be rated 160+ though, so can't see that.
That was my exact first thought on reading this - surely Sharjah would be too high for one of these? The ground issue always comes up with him however... can't imagine Switch Switchy would not want a runner here either?

He was talking about Aramon and he said the County Hurdle could be a better target for him with the ground possibly drying out being a plus.

Thanks for that Missunited - I was hoping someone else would have watched it.

I was beginning to think I'd dreamt this though I thought these comments came from a previous interview before Gowran/Navan.
Delighted this is still the thinking, if/when Aramon is confirmed for the County I can see his odds bombing...

Jessica Harrington is confident Supasundae can make his presence felt in the Unibet Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham.

                  • Honeysuckle has shortened slightly for this over the last couple of days but not sure if it's just a consequence of BDD clearly not coming here.

                    • I’d still be very surprised if she went to the mares hurdle said it all along I think she’ll come here. Just reading what Henry has said in his tour and it sounds even more likely she’ll come here.

                      • This bit will please a few

                        Jessica Harrington:
"He's in great form and I was absolutely thrilled with the way he ran in Leopardstown. He got off to a very slow start this year and he'll come on a ton for that," said the Moone-based trainer on Tuesday.
"He did a bit of work this morning and I was delighted with him. I think the trainer might have finally got it right this year - two miles in Cheltenham might suit him as he just doesn't get up the hill over three miles.

I have not backed her in either race.

She is faced with having to improve markedly against a number of opponents over a trip confirmed as being short of her best or take on effectively one opponent over a trip much closer to her ideal.

I would have thought that looks somewhere close to what is termed a no brainer.

Henry De Bromhead strikes me as one of the game's best fence sitters. The previous quotes about leaning towards the Mares came from the Racing Manager. Quite possibly not a lot has changed.

In terms of the occasion clearly it would be much better if she headed for the Mares. Who wants to see another walkover?

                          • A decision on whether Honeysuckle will run in the Unibet Champion Hurdle or the Close Brothers Mares’ Hurdle at next month’s Cheltenham Festival is likely to be left “pretty late”, according to her trainer Henry de Bromhead.

The daughter of Sulamani – who has excelled in the hands of Rachael Blackmore – extended her unbeaten record to seven with a battling performance in the Irish Champion Hurdle at Leopardstown at the start of February, and connections are in no rush to commit to which race she will contest in the Cotswolds.

De Bromhead said: “She’s in both races and she’ll run in one or the other. I’m only part of Team Honeysuckle and I think we’ll keep all our options open and see how everything unfolds.

“She’s in mighty form and I was delighted to win an Irish Champion Hurdle with her. She’d never been asked that sort of question before and she had to dig deep after a bit of a funny jump at the last – I thought she was really tough.

“She’s such a good mare. The ground was better and the trip was shorter and she still managed to do it.”

De Bromhead admits the possible presence of the Willie Mullins-trained Benie Des Dieux in the Mares’ Hurdle may have an impact on where Honeysuckle ultimately lines up.

“Benie Des Dieux was really impressive over three miles on heavy ground in the Galmoy Hurdle the other day. This will be two and a half on who knows what sort of ground, but it’s unlikely to be as heavy as it was in Gowran,” the trainer continued.

“She’s a brilliant mare and I think she’s unbeaten when she’s completed. It will be some race if they end up taking each other on, but we’ve got plenty to weigh up.

“We haven’t really discussed it yet. I would imagine it will be a pretty late decision.”

He goes on to bang on about petit Mouchoir having as good a chance as any.

Have to say, Henry seems to be running scared of Benie

I would LOVE her to go for the CH.

......I'll also then use BDD having a cake-walk as another reason to cash the Mares race as not being worthy of beign a Grade 1, as BDD should be facing Paisley Park if it's all about the best

                            • Reading that, it appears to me that they may be favouring the CH.

What is stopping them confirming going for the Mares? It can only be BDD.

If they weren't bothered about Benie they would just confirm her for the Mares race, imo.
