Hello Fat Jockeys,

    • Don't get to down GJT, a few years ago I lost around 40℅ of my ante post bets (and there were lots) before the festival started and I still managed to grind out a profit.

I got to the point where I was getting a non runner every other day. It was almost laughable.

Spot on FM - it can turnaround (for good and bad) very quickly. I had great positions on Sprinter Sacre and Spirit Son when neither won the Supreme.

        • FM, OV ..... how do you treat your ante post bets? Do you let them ride, do you play again on the day (I know it is hard to give a hard-and-fast answeer for all situations) ....

I play more than one horse in a race and depending on my opinions (and how strong they are) I either back to get my stakes back as an absolute minimum..... the stronger my 'book' in the morning, the easier it becomes to make money from my opinions. (I hope that makes sense? - Be interested to know how you do it?) - and everyone elses methods too...

          • Had a look in my book, nothing spectacular but some steady looking bets.

            Thistlecrack 6/1 - 4pt win
Yorkhill 7/2 (JLT) and DDS 6/1 (Triumph) - 3pt double
            Altior 6/4 and DDS 6/1 - 2pt double

Not too many awful looking bets the main one is a 3pt win on VVM for the Ryanair, really fancied her to go chasing this year.

I had a 1pt 4 fold of Altior 6/4, Douvan 1/2, Thistlecrack 7/2 and Annie Power 5/2. Really fancied that, nevermind!

            • I seem to have made profit at every Fest I have been involved in, but looking back now since you asked the question I am 99% sure the decent part of my profits were from on-the-day betting. AP bets are like a bonus in my books, though I do stake a lot bigger on the day.

Very interesting. Do the AP bets you HAVE placed affect the bets you make on the day to make profit. For example, I know when I have some fancy prices, it allows me to be creative on the day and maybe have more on a horse than I would usually .... especially when you have the fav at double the SP?

                • AP bets don't effect my bets on the day. I never stake any more than 3pts per AP, and on the day I could end up staking a total of 10pts on the race. It all depends on how much I fancy a horse to win.

                  • ...and tbh I don't implement any strategies when it comes to the Fest. I am all-in - win, lose or draw and just enjoy the event.

                      • Melon, UNWIMH, DDS and Thistlecrack all to place 16/1 with Skybet, huge price I think. Chucked a couple of pts on it

                          That does look big ryan.
I tried playing one of the Skybet specials a few weeks back and they limited the amount to £30 on another 16/1 shot, never quite sure why bookies offer a price and then restrict you to small stakes, if they don't trust the price then sack the odds compiler and find someone you do trust !

                          • Yeah its £31 max. £30 would still return a nice £500
