The Grade 2 Skymas Chase is run at Down Royal Racecourse on the same card as the JNWine.com Champion Chase. The race conditions restrict entries to horses aged 5 year old and up who have not won a chase before 5/5/19. It is therefore a race targeted by second season chasers and novices. I
The next Skymas Chase is due to be run on Saturday 31 October 2020. Lough Construction Ltd Irish Wiskey are the new sponsor with the Skymas tribute now dropped. The race has previously remembered Skymas the oldest winner of the Queen Mother Champion Chase. Skymas won two consecutive Champion Chases (1976- 77) at the Cheltenham Festival as an 11 and 12 year old. He was trained by Bryan Lusk at Templepatrick, County Antrim ( making Down Royal his local track). Skymas also finished runner-up in an Irish Grand National.
