Im taking a swing at ballyfad 100/1 arkle. Hopefully runs at down royal this week. I know some strong novice chasers this season, and some short enough in this market, if he runs in the race I think he might this week, that price wont last long... could easily go further or handicap, but 100 to tempting to let it go!

….365 pushed him out 40-1 Sup today, but only go 25s Turners & AB.

He won both his bumpers at Down Royal and Ayr, but we've taken our time with him. He could be a real good horse. We'll start him off over two miles at Down Royal. Looking at him, you'd say he's a staying type as he's big and powerful. He looks great.

I’ve done a speculative GE yankee
Romeo coolio Ryanair
Rare et precieux triumph
Skerryhill turners
Charismatic kid supreme
It’d be nice if these ran well if declared

Albert Bartlett winner Johnny’s Jury could make his chasing debut at Wetherby on Friday, if the ground is soft enough.

Jamie Snowden’s six-year-old won at the Cheltenham Festival in dramatic style, coming from last to first under Gavin Sheehan.

He proved that was no fluke when not beaten far at Aintree and Snowden is looking forward to sending him over fences this season, with the caveat being there must be enough cut in the ground.

“The first option for him would be the two-and-a-half-mile novice chase (bet365 “Chasing Excellence” Beginners’ Chase) at Wetherby’s Charlie Hall meeting,” said Snowden.

“That’s the first one we’re looking at, but he definitely wants softer ground for sure so it would be dependent on them getting plenty of rain.

“We do desperately need some rain. The summer jumping tracks like Worcester and Ffos Las that have been watering all summer, once they get a bit of rain the ground can turn quite quickly but the winter tracks are going to take all the rain and more before they are where they want to be.”

Harry Derham’s unbeaten Cristal d’Estruval, Anthony Honeyball’s Catchintsavo and Dan Skelton’s Le Beau Madrik are also among the nine entries.

Ryanair Chase hero Heart Wood is on course to make his seasonal debut this weekend in a race trainer Henry de Bromhead is extra keen to win.

The BetVictor Champion Chase at Down Royal on Saturday is the first Grade 1 of the new season in Britain and Ireland and Northern Ireland’s only 'championship' race.

It has been named this year in memory of Envoi Allen, who died at Cheltenham having won the Down Royal showpiece for de Bromhead and owners Cheveley Park three times in the last four years - he was also second in 2023.

De Bromhead said: "Envoi Allen had a fantastic record at the track throughout his career and it's brilliant that the race has been named after him.

"He was a standard-bearer for Cheveley Park, his owners, and it was brilliant he had so much success at the highest level. It's a brilliant race and been won by some great horses through the years.

"We are looking forward to Heart Wood going - at this stage he is an intended runner."

De Bromhead has an outstanding record in the race, but had to settle for second with Sizing Europe in the most famous renewal in 2010, when a certain Kauto Star made a memorable sortie across the Irish Sea.

Saturday's 10 entries also include the Gordon Elliott-trained quartet of Romeo Coolio, Stellar Story, Jacob's Ladder and Croke Park, while Rebecca Curtis is set to give popular nine-year-old Haiti Couleurs a first outing of the campaign.

Affordable Fury (Noel Meade), Banbridge (Joseph O'Brien), Fleur In The Park (Andrew Slattery) and O'Toole (Stuart Crawford) are also engaged.

Looks a brilliant race if most of those turn up.

White Noise entered in top Mares Hurdle race at Wetherby on Saturday. Perhaps she's not going chasing after all. Mares Hurdle will be up for grabs if Wodhooh goes Stayers and with Lossy going Churdle again.

When has the MNH winner ever been 80/1 to follow up in the Mares Hurdle. Unbelievable odds IMO.

I backed her at 50/1 months ago because I thought that was crazy 🤣

Had to back her, 80/1 is a bit of a joke for a fez winner
Mad isn't it. Bailey did say she was going chasing this season and sticking to 2m as she didn't look to stay 2 1/2. Maybe he's had a rethink or will be switching between codes?

Kim Bailey reported Cheltenham Festival winner White Noise ready to do herself justice if taking up her engagement in the Listed bet365 Montagu Mares at Wetherby on Saturday.

The Andoversford stable have a runner on the opening day of the meeting on Friday, which will go some way to telling connections whether underfoot conditions will be suitable for the six-year-old.

“She will run on Saturday if the ground is OK and while any rain would be helpful we have a runner there on Friday and it really depends on how that one (Step Ahead) handles the ground,” said Bailey, who shares the licence with Mat Nicholls.

“She is in good form and worked very well last week – Tom (Bellamy) rode her work – and we are very happy with her. She won first time out last season and while the original plan was to go to Ascot, that is good to firm so it was a second call to go to Wetherby.”

White Noise sprung something of a shock in the Grade Two Ryanair Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle in March, landing dismissive odds of 40-1 in running out a length-and-a-quarter winner from Oldschool Outlaw over two miles and one furlong.

She went on to finish second in a Listed contest at Haydock on her final start of the season behind Fergal O’Brien’s Dream Ahead over a longer trip of two miles five furlongs, but Bailey is marking up that form.

“I think you will find the Haydock form will work out well,” he said. “The track is very different to Cheltenham and is a tight track in comparison and I think you will find that to be a good run.”
