The Fred Winter Juvenile Handicap Hurdle

I see there's been abit of money on Calvados which I tipped earlier this month, seems its gone from 33s to 20/1, I'm tempted to put abit more on at 33/1 on paddypower but the only worry is if it will be qualified to run in this as I think it needs one more run?

How are people playing Pied Piper for this? If he wins today, where does he go? I have him ante post for this @ 20/1 and am debating cashing it in fear of 365 getting trigger happy and greying out the cashout if he won today. it woldnt 100% mean he went Triumph of course, but 365 been super cautious (if you want to call it that) recently on the cashouts.

Surely the owners dont send both PP and Fil Dor to the Triumph? Would they send Fil Dor to the Boodles? Surely not... We are led to believe Gordon was apparently prepared to send a real good one (or so we thoughtat the time) in Quilixios go to the Boodles to run off top weight, so maybe he'd do that with PP. Or Fil Dor! :onthego:

Probably a bit late with this as 365 will probably suspend PP shortly...

I think he'll get done today. Drifting like a skunk.

Yeah the drift has to be a worry for any bets for today or the triumph

If he wins today, he's beat the Timeform highest rated juvenile hurdler in Iceo. If Iceo finishes second, I don't think the handicapper is going to give PP a mark that would be of use in the Boodles. Owner would be better off sending 2 to the Triumph if PP wins today as it would be both horses best chance at winning at Cheltenham.

Iceo today and Pied Piper Boodles was 59/1 last night....

Spose every owner is different, and not au fait with how PP owners operate really, but would they really send 2 horses of the top 3 in the betting to the same race? Not many owners would, would they? More likely one of them saved for a big race elsewhere in Ireland?

Hmmmmm. Hard to judge PP on one hurdle run, especially after Gordon said something post race along the lines of "we havenet done a scrap of work with him, he's just rocked up on won pretty cold".

Guess i need to make a decision on who i fancy today and go from there. Boooo! Can't i just sit on the PP fence a bit longer? :smug:

Not sure about the owner but if PP wins today, he's going to be top weight in the Boodles. The British handicapper has IMO been quite leniant with the marks given to the juveniles this year in Britain and the WPM favourite looks well in based on French form. The Triumph may be an easier race to win compared to top weight in the Boodles this year.

You also neeed to make hay while the sun shines with the juveniles as the majority of them struggle the following year.

After Cheltenham, there's the G2 at Fairyhouse and the G1s at Aintree and Punchestown. I can't think of any other races a Triumph type horse would be aimed out. They are spaced out enough to take 2 of them in after Cheltenham so no need to skip Cheltenham IMO.

Fair points, it just seems unlikely to me that the same owner would have 2 of the top 3 in a Triumph. See how today pans out I guess! Cheers for the input.

Anyone else not feel PP looks like he'd prefer the old course. The new course looks made for Fil Dor big galloping sort, whereas PP looks a bit speedier?

Other way round for me if anything.

PP had Vauban off it with his high cruising speed a fair way out on debut.

I thought Fil Dor looked a proper nimble sort:chuncky:

Who knows haha!

Forever William was off the bridle nearly the whole way yet was leading turning in then and still managed to get third. Considering Alan King's horses aren't running great atm I thought that was a very good run and is of interest for this.

Then one may go Supreme.
Most likely both Triumph. :cheerful:

Yeah I think you might be right with both going Triumph. Interesting that Jack didn't come over for the ride today. I know Gordon had a few runners at FH but they weren't brilliant rides. Hoping one doesn't head to the Supreme, that would ruin my chances of Potter heading there.

Better from Champion Green that. Obviously need to find what mark he gets but a likely player in this imo

He's undoubtedly quirky but Champion Green looks to have plenty more in his locker and will be a real force in the Boodles.
