Hurricane Fly will be assessed during the winter before connections consider their next move with the great hurdler.
The 22-times Grade One winner made no significant impression in the French Champion Hurdle at Auteuil on Sunday, finishing sixth behind Un Temps Pour Tout.
Now an 11-year-old, some observers had considered retirement a possibility after his run at the weekend.
But Patrick Mullins, the trainer's son and assistant, said: "We'll give him a break now. It was just the end of a long season.
"He grabbed at the first a bit and Ruby (Walsh) said he never travelled with him.
"We'll get him back in and see how he is in the winter.
