Gordon Elliott’s quote on his Betfair column late afternoon said the following.

“Tronador progressed from a nice first run at Leopardstown to win at Thurles last week. I think the switch to a more galloping track and the longer distance of this race will suit him and he is getting plenty of weight too. It's never easy for a four-year-old to beat their elders but his allowances give him a chance and this run should tell us whether we can target graded races with him or whether we need to look at handicaps for the rest of the season.”


That is the big question, does he want to win and go into Graded, or run well without winning and take in the Boodles at the Festival, to give the owners a second win in the race in three years.

Yep, raced at the back, hurdling not as fluent as if allowed to bowl along and a finish that suggested he has more to give.

Irish handicap weights out for him on Monday morning.

Veneer of Charm didn’t run from this race to the Fred Winter.

The winner of Tronador’s race today, also trained by Gordon went out in the betting from overnight 7/2, to today drifting to 16/1 and then in the ten minutes before the off, was smashed in to 4/1.

The instructions would have been sit 4 lengths off Goshan, if he’s going well and clearly going to win make sure you get beat as far and you can....Jacobs did an awful job of making it look subtle but the stewards probably still missed it! Could be a player in this
 
I went into today reading Gordon Elliott’s Betfair comments that the race today would tell him whether TRONADOR would be moving to graded races or handicaps for the rest of the season.

After staying on from the back in an all-aged Novice Hurdle over 2M2F this afternoon off a low weight (for being a juvenile) he gained an RPR of 113. Slightly lower than the 118 and 119 earned in the last month.

Based on those RPR’s he will probably be no more than mid-120’s, which would probably need a bit of UK weight tax, to get in to the bottom of the Boodles weights.

I looked back at GE’s prior years Fred Winter/Boodles winners.

Veneer of Charm (pre Fez RPR’s 121, 121, 98) had slightly higher RPR’s than Tronador, and a UK rating of 129 before winning by 3 lengths.

His prior winner was Flaxen Flare, won by four and a half lengths and had a UK rating given of 127, and his RPR’s for prior runs were 113, 119, 119 (unbelievably close to Tronador).

So await Irish handicapper mark on Monday.

Job done, bang on expectations c/w Flaxen Flare and Veneer of Charm data in post above.

TRONADOR Initial Irish Rating 125. (UK tax of 4lb puts him in towards bottom of the weights).
 
Tronador, Cerberus, Monte Cristo and Navajo Pass are entered in the Cheltenham Grade 2 Triiumph Hurdle trial on Saturday.
