Supreme Novices 2018

Bit of a drift on Red Jack with PP for this weekend. Nice to see Mengli shortening.

Forgot to add, they've noticeably shortened Le Richebourg as if they've had the nod from JP which is his best chance!

I think the soft going may play to Red Jacks strengths, he had Le Richebourg well covered on debut on similar going, Sean Flanagan will know the horse inside out, wouldn't put it past JP & Frank Berry to be looking for a bit more juice with Red Jacks price with the jockey booking move

Makitorix has run just once since arriving from France, scoring by 18 lengths on his hurdling debut at Listowel in September, and Mullins is unsure what to expect.

He said: "We had a couple of other horses that we thought might run in the race, but through one thing and another they don't and Makitorix has come to the fore.

"He will lack a bit of experience, but we'll take our chance and we'll know what we have on Sunday."

Gordon Elliott is triple-handed in his bid to win the Royal Bond for the first time.

Heading the team is*Mengli Khan, who having been beaten over hurdles twice last season, has raised his game to register two impressive victories at Navan this term.

"Mengli Khan is a different horse this year," Elliott told At The Races.

"He was a big shell last year and he's a lot stronger now.

"I'd say it was the best thing that happened that he didn't win a race (last season)."

The Cullentra handler also saddles*Hardline and Morgan.

The seven-strong field is completed by the JP McManus-owned trio of Early Doors,*Le Richebourg and Red Jack.

Early Doors and*Le Richebourg are both unbeaten over hurdles for Joseph O'Brien, with the owner's retained rider Barry Geraghty siding with the latter.

Red Jack*has won two bumpers and a Naas maiden hurdle for Noel Meade and tests his powers at the highest level under Sean Flanagan.

Meade said: "Red Jack is 100 per cent.*He's done everything right since Naas and everything has gone right. We've had no setbacks, he's schooled well and everything has gone well.

"He'd want to step up a long way from Naas. It's a huge race and a very hot field, but he'll take his chance."

I'm hoping Mengli Khan wins well today.... or Red Jack (although that seems unlikely at his price).

Anything but those two and I have nothing in my book for the Supreme that I'd be excited about.

Not confident enough to back anything in the race, although maybe Early Doors after watching The Sunday Forum this morning

I think early doors will step up in trip after this personally.

That will do. 1st and 2nd at 3 figures for this race and 2nd well covered for the ballymore.

I also had red jack any race at 16s.

Seems happy at that trip for me? Couple of not good jumps though.

Mengli Khan fairly solid. Everything right.

Mengli Khan very good again, travels like a dream, absolute unit of a horse though. Only worry would be his turn of foot for Cheltenham, if Real Steel shows improvement he may outpace him. Obviously still a few others still to come out too.

Nicely done by Mengli Khan.

I'm pinning my hopes on Red Jack turning up in a handicap for my any race bets :highly_amused:

More than happy with that. Perhaps didn’t hurdle quite as well as last time but love the way he stayed on all the way to the line. Stamina key for the Supreme and think the race will be ideal for him myself.

Sayar is the one that interests me most. Shame he is on the easy list at the moment.

I've been keen on Sayar for a bit, think he was certainly ahead of the Mullins runner today, although that wouldn't prove much based on today!

Iv always thought he would be better up in trip looking at his bumpers and previous novices. If he stays at 2 then fair enough but I'd be suorised if they don't try him a little further in something like the Deloitte.

No doubt mengli stays at 2 miles. The one to beat so far.
Obviously not the best of mullins there though.

They weren't expecting a lot from Red Jack but would be a massive leap of faith to think he'd even turn up in the Supreme now... Red Jack 'Any Race' going near the bottom of my list of open bets :highly_amused:

Jack Kennedy going to be an interesting one for Top Jockey at this race!

Very interesting comments from O’Leary re Samcro! Fair play to him.

I still think Stratum was one of their better two milers. Have a feeling they don’t have any 2 mile superstars this year myself now Annamix is out.

Winter soldier. Real steel.
Sayar s decent couldn't have him beating mengli though personally.

He has to say that though doesn't he?

I think he is the second coming but I wouldn't be saying that if I owned him. I'd talk him down, exactly as O'Leary did.
