Passing this on without checking but it's claimed that, since 2000, 198 horses have tried to win a Festival G1 having had their last run before the Festival in a handicap. 2 have succeeded.

Think the stat is: only two horses have won a G1 hurdle race at the Cheltenham festival after having their prep in a handicap since 2000, out of 198 attempts.

In the interests of transparency Id better fess-up, I read the article earlier today on The Narrowing The Field Blog!! so I did have the years and the hurdle info.

At least it doesn’t hinder Didtheyleaveuoutto’s chance in the Ballymore after getting beaten on Saturday.

Got a bit excited when I read that headline today (as a 50/1 Ballymore backer riiiiight at the start of the season).... then read it and saw he meant handicaps.

Dope.

Jokes on them though, cashed out full stake at 50s and backed 33/1 NRNB, so screw you Gifford.

See Angels Breath as short as 6/5 for the Dovecote now. Unibet still dangling top price 2/1 which causes some doubt, although bear in mind they held out 6s for longer than any other bookie on Mr Fisher who went off evens LTO

Nicky seemed to suggest he wanted a bigger field for Angels Breath prep rather than the Dovecote. That was yesterday though so he probably changed his mind several times since then.
