Martin Pipe 2018

Mr Big Shot. They really think a lot of this one and I wonder if they've been waiting to unleash him here, in his dad's race. Nice weight for it...

Will need a lot to pull out for him to get in though, but at NRNB no reason why he isn't worth a bet, I remember him being talked quite highly of as well.

Been a little nibble for Mr Big Shot in this. Nothing wrong so far but presumably the stats for seasonal debutants at the Festival are pretty dreadful and that's before you take into account the trainer having a very poor season?

Acknowledged, good spot. Stats mean nothing when these rogues are up to something

As comply said it probably won't get in but nothing lost at a big price. There are one or two other seasonal debutants of some interest in various races, including JP's Jerrysback and Dream Berry but where that owner is concerned I think you need a bit more than guesswork as to what shape they are in.

I thought Deal D'estruval ran an eye catching race yesterday in the Coral Hurdle, coming second behind Off You Go.

I wasn't overly impressed with his debut at Tramore but he seemed to come on a lot yesterday and ran a really encouraging race, travelled through the race very nicely.

He ran off 127 yesterday so you'd have to hope that the handicapper takes a strong view of the race and gives him a good increase to maybe squeeze into the bottom of the weights. The Martin Pipe 135+ the last 2 years) compared to what has generally been a higher mark needed in the Coral Cup with a mark of 136+ last year and 139+ in 2016 needed to run. Interestingly he is entered up in another race this Thursday and although coming very soon after this, I wonder if they will take up the run if he has come out of the weekend well?

The horse got a decent mention in One Jump Ahead this year:

I think it's noteworthy he was entered up in all the grade 1 novice hurdle races at Cheltenham which shows they must think highly of the horse. I also noted Joe Chambers tweet yesterday:

Stunning day’s racing.
The crowd round the paddock for the hurdle race will live long. F ran better, spring time can’t come soon enough, we’ll plough on.
Min was very professional, first time since we owned him that he got a lead (I think).
Deal is the future.
On to tomorrow.
— Joe Chambers (@chambers2_joe) February 3, 2018

=> Deal is the future <=

Now on first look the Coral Cup would probably be the first race you'd think of? However i'd be more inclined to look at the Martin Pipe for the horse as his profile looks better for that race plus he'd probably have more chance of getting into that race. Plus if he is that well thought of by connections, and is considered as a real chasing in the making than this race would seem the logical fit. Mullins has a strong record in the race winning it in 2015 with Killultagh Vic, 2014 with Don Poli and Sir Des Champs in 2011. If you look at the past winners of the race:

Champagne Classic
Ibis du Rheu
Killultagh Vic
Don Poli
Salubrious
Attaglance
Sire des Champs

They've all gone onto become strong staying chases, notably the Mullins winners.

I've requested him to be added in both the Martin Pipe, Coral and Any Race markets

14/1 now jono NRNB BOG

Are you on?

does anyone have an opinion on DIESE DES BIEFFES for this race?

I was tempted to get him onside today Mark he has a good profile for this race and looks a stayer. He’s been outpaced on his two previous runs and off the bridle early without running badly. What put me off for the minute was I’m not sure he’ll travel well enough through the race to be competitive up the hill.

I don't actually like DIESE DES BIEFFES.
I thought if he was good enough he'd have won the Lanzarotte. No real excuses in that race and not inclined to see why he'd improve at Cheltenham particularly.

He had a light weight when coming 5th and doesn't look WELL handicapped to me. GOod enough to be running, but not standout IMO

As just mentioned in the Pertemps thread.... Dell Arca for David Pipe is 66/1 NRNB and will sneak in at the top of the weights after being dropped 4 lbs.

He's never won the race named after his Dad but maybe this 4 lb drop is a leaving present from Phil to the Pipe family :p

I’ve backed him for the Kim Muir, not sure where he’s heading but would give him a chance in that. He ran in this last year and was woeful, assumed he gave his best then also. Think he needs 3 miles nowadays to show any spark

Back to the drawing boards for me with this race toady. Had to cash out on my Blow By Blow ticket after he was jacked 5lbs in the weights after a slightly flattered victory lto. Phil Smith must have missed Roaring Bulls fall at the last :very_drunk:

I reckon Dortmund Park is after getting a nice lenient mark. He was travelling best of all in the grade 1 staying novices hurdle at Leopardstown with about 3 furlongs to go and i think his previous race less than two weeks before Leopardstown (on very heavy ground) had bottomed him out somewhat and he didn't find as much for pressure as he had done in the past. A six week break from the track should have him freshened up and ready to roll.

Mad keen on Dortmund Park myself Sean. The good ground might actually help him too if we get it, as his French CHampion Bumper win was on that...

Yeah true that, Gordon keeps saying the heavy ground we've had in Ireland all winter hasn't suited him. He's plenty of options but not sure he has the class to really compete for a Ballymore. So it'll be this race or the Albert Bartlett. Gordon generally sends more experienced horses to the Coral.

DP has also had a wind op.

Didn't know he'd had a wind op. Certainly not a negative.

I've actually got him backed in both NRNB so quite happy for him to line up in either... I suppose this race is technically more winnable, and if he's being considered for this, it means they think he's held by Cracking Smart? Then again, if he goes AB, you have to take that as a vote of confidence too?

Judging by the noises out of the stable Cracking Smart is Gigginstown's AB horse. Which again leads me to guess this will be the route for Dortmund Park.
