Mares Hurdle 2020

Was all about the extra distance with her. Brought about a huge amount of improvement. You have to hand it to Mullins he knows how to get the best out of these Mares. Sensational trainer

It seems it was yes, but it really was last chance salon, i was shocked she stayed out in front all the way.

Thanks Kev
I’ve backed since March ( 6/1) and in doubles ( first legs already won ) and will continue to do so
Will be my biggest winner
Redemption awaits, stay fit BDD.

Mhmmhmmm.

Could well be a very sensible tactic for the week.

Goes without saying she needs to get there safe and sound, but I am very much coming round to the idea.

Honeysuckle is a worthy new opponent, but she is the one who has to go into open company and prove she's up to it...

Those three rated rated 157, 159, 150, would have to be a terrible Champion Hurdle to look worse than that.

I have to say the ratings are shambolic to me.

Benie is miles better than a 150 Mare. Cyrname better than Altior? Nonsense

She's 157 over hurdles as it stands. While i would hope she is as well, not sure anything in her form entitles her to be rated higher..

I am a connection, and i didn't have a penny on. Happy days though.

Archie's right, she has one way of racing + that's from the front, but even then recently that wasn't working.

I didn't know that you were in her, Jack, or I'd have let you answer for yourself. Very pleased for her and for all you lads that stuck by her.

With MOM 100%
Ratings are in some cases wrong .

In what respect are they wrong with Benie though? She's quite hard to assess to be fair, nothing screams out she should be rated 160+ over hurdles. of 157 she's 164 with her allowance already.

Looking at possible runners Honeysuckle is stand out, unproven in this company but potentially a big threat.
We all bet differently and it’s not an absolute science LOL
BDD currently on my book returns just over four figures , I will continue to do doubles with WH & 365 ( Best price BDD 5/2)
I have 2 doubles running onto Honeysuckle which more than covers my outlay on BDD
Used this plan last year on Altior ( sweated a bit up the hill LOL) and BDD ( had big ew saver on Roksana)
If something else wins then we take it on the chin and move on
Not everyone’s cuppa but it’s proved profitable for me .

Yes difficult to assess however we all form our own opinions , I’m not saying MOM and myself / others are right and you are wrong
It’s all subjective
For me bet of the week and have bet accordingly

The handicapper's job is the handicap the horse on the form shown. So her mark is based on that, they don't say well i think she's a 170 mare so i'll rate her that....that's all i'm saying. They are probably correct in their assessment based on their job.

I expect her to be slightly better than 157 myself so i am in agreement with you and MOM.

Ratings only matter in handicaps. Everywhere else it's just another punting tool.

For what it's worth, I can see a case for Benie being 160 based on her performance against Bapaume. Likewise, although I think that Honeysuckle is a very good mare who could be well up to the high 150s, I don't think that there's anything in her actual form that entitles her to be on 150 just yet.

No worries Archie, i didn't mind you answering at all! Thanks, she is the first horse i've ever been involved in and has given me some great fun!

Last year had two mares in the Champion hurdle rated 157 and 166 plus horses rated 165 162 165 172 and it felt like a pretty average renewal at best even with those running, maybe the winner might of gone on to greatness but sadly we will never know. Three decent mares racing against each other coz the rest all have no chance, not for me, and personally I think they should never of created the mares race, we never got to see what Quevega could of achieved and Annie Power could of been a two time champion. But we are all different all equal. I accept that those ratings are decent for the mares but cant accept it would be better than the champ hurdle personally

On paper beforehand it looked a cracking renewal of the CH last year.

All credit to the winner, he was brilliant.

just a shame BD fell with sharjah brought down, and apples diddn't bring her earlier form.

I thought it was well above average last year myself. Certainly better than the previous three or four years.
Just panned out really bad and then we lose the winner.

Plus Laurina didn't show her true form. The race was very Fraught.

Average renewal? Blimey you’re hard to please. Beforehand, 99% of us would’ve thought it was one of the best champion hurdles in years.

Did she not?
She'd never ran in a proper race, nevermind a champion hurdle at a frenetic gallop. The only way you'll tell is if they stick her in it again. Instead of Micky mouse mares races which she'd win in the lead up with no bother.
