Latest going report Cheltenham

Rain has been pretty constant for the last hour or so now, definitely be needing soft ground horses by the end of the day

Here and it’s been constant the past hour or so. It’s been updated to good to soft with good in places. I’d say by off time you’d be more likely good to soft everywhere. Could get tacky by the end of the day if it continues

If its still good to soft good in places after this mornings rain +5mm last night I wouldn’t worry about the tiger yet as the xc course won’t have gotten watered manually?

According to Turftrax, still good to soft, good in places across the old, new and XC.

Putting that rain on last night looks like a stroke of genius now...

The rain today surely would've ruined that going whether or not their was watering that occurred, doesn't mean it wasn't a stupid decision and un-needed. Especially if you ask the Aintree Fat Man who seemed obsessed with the Countryfile forecast as being gospel.

Note to new Clerk, take it on the chin, you will learn from this
Just goes to show how critical that job is. You can seriously mess up peoples coin and horses changes with the wrong call

Someone bookmark some weather app on his laptop

Heads up

Some of the forecasts yesterday and even earlier this morning said the rain would miss. Think of the outrage if the rain missed, no water was put on the course and they ran on good or better ground. We may still have had non runners for the ground and as far as I am aware, no fatalities today as the ground was heavy but safe.

Tough job.

I want to know how much the watered last night, it wasn’t no 2-3mm.

they got themselves in a mess by not watering on Sunday-Monday

agree, horse safety is top priority but he has a job to do, and so far, they have got it wrong

Tough job, agreed but most jobs are tough. You mess up, you leave yourself open for critisism

Mr Supple the starter is in need of a holiday, mediocre jockey and useless starter.
He missed two opportunities to start races yesterday and then let them go in an untidy mess.

Anyone able to call if new course likely to be not as bad?

Watering was an error. But entirely reasonable. You can only make a decision based on the information you have at the time. At the time, the forecast was for no rain. We had a fatality yesterday too, which might’ve been because of the going (which was good in anyones book). Also, why is Nicholls basing his opinion on a 3-day old forecast?

The farce re the Bumper is less forgivable. As everyone said, horses don’t mind a bit of standing water. Amateur hour that.

Anyway, moving on. With the good weather we’re expecting, what is the going reasonably going to be tomorrow? Soft would be my guess.

It's not the first and won't be the last time.

He really annoys me.
