Latest going report Cheltenham

Much nicer forecast that. Any extreme in ground is always disappointing. Any combination of good to soft and soft would be just fine. Hopefully be mid next week should have a pretty firm idea of what to expect
 
The Met Office, BBC and Metcheck sites have all changed substantially (for the better) in the last couple of days. Basically, 5 days is the very limit of anything remotely reliable.
 
8 days to go and some rain I see has appeared for this Wednesday night/Thursday morning and as previously expected around the weekend. It all appears to be showers though, nothing really heavy and what you'd expect to see just keeping the ground as it is, if that. Obviously those of you who live close by will know better, but surely with the last ground condition report calling it soft all round but with no rain over the last few days, you would expect it to be g/s by now - although I'm sure you locals will know.

This is the only time in the year where I get really interested in the weather.

Ground will likely dry out through the 4 days

Just talking to my mate and suggested if Willie sees the drier weather, I'd suspect Galopin Des Champs will run on the Wednesday over 3 and not wait another drying day to run over 2m 3f in the Turners

Just trying to think of a few other horses who's destination that could be decided by the dry weather
 
A wise old owl once told me that in the UK you should ignore any weather forecast over 5 days as it’s little more than guess work. A slight alteration to any of the variables used in the forecast can cause a major change in the outcome.

That’s probably not really news to most on here but it’s worth mentioning.

I'd agree with that but to be fair, while the 5 day is usually pretty certain, the period 5-10 days is normally more right than dead wrong, but I understand what you are saying. Seen plenty of examples of the midlands get a lot of rain while Cheltenham missed out as well when I lived there.

And to show how things can change, the rain with heavy outbursts that we in Ireland are due tomorrow, is also expected to hit Wales, again quite heavy and sustained. However, at the moment it is not envisaged to hit the course.

You'd feel for the Clerk of the Course and his team at this point.

Looks to be a breezy few days between now & Tuesday too, which will help it dry out
 
Any combination of green and yellow is fine with me I think. Wouldn’t even bemoan yellow all over for day one.
