Jockeys in Grade 1s

I was in early to work this morning and instead of doing something half productive, I said I'd do something actually productive and look at the performance of jockeys in G1s at the festival the last 5 years.

Ruby 18 wins 10 Hurdle 8 Chase
Nico 6 wins 5 Chase 1 Hurdle
Barry 6 wins 1 Chase 5 Hurdle
Davy 5 wins 3 Chase 2 Hurdle
Noel 4 wins 3 Hurdle 1 Chase
Jack 4 wins 3 Hurdle 1 Chase
Cooper 3 wins 2 Chase 1 Hurdle
PT 3 wins 3 Hurdle
Scu 3 wins 2 Chase 1 Hurdle
Dickie 2 wins 1 Chase 1 Hurdle
AP 2 wins 2 Chase
Ryan Hatch 1 win 1 Chase
STD 1 win 1 Chase
Robbie 1 win 1 Chase
P.Carberry 1 win 1 hurdle
Cobden 1 win 1 hurdle
Sheehan 1 win 1 hurdle

Few quick highlight points:

Ruby had a poor record over fences for a number of years but that appears to have evened out with 10 hurdle wins and 8 chase wins. Ruby is actually 6 Chase wins and 5 hurdle wins in the last 3 years.

Of the jockeys with 1 win of which there are 9, 6 came over distances of 3m+, 2 were clear performers in weak QMCC divisions, with the other in the Neptune/Ballymore.

Ruby (5), Jack & Noel (both 3) account for 52.3% of G1 hurdle wins the last 3 years.

Ruby (6), Nico (4) & Davy (2) account for 66.7% of G1 chase wins the last 3 years.

Daryl Jacob is a notable absentee.

Back to the topic, are we expecting any great shakes this year? Will Ruby just bounce up to his usually superb level?

Good question Kev. I think Ruby will have a quiet Cheltenham in comparison to previous years. I wonder what odds you would get on Ruby not to ride a winner?
