Has anyone had a Cheltenham 2022 punt yet

I disagree about it not being smart Istabraq. The odds more than make up for the non-runners. It's all about playing the percentage game.

I have a whole host of bets I made early last year, singles, and multiples, and wouldn't go back on any of them.

This year I have more than ever:

Sir Gerhard Bumper and Any Race 22’ 33/1
Shishkin Champion Chase 22’ 14/1
Shishkin Arkle and Champion Chase 22’ 14/1
Gaillard du Mesnil 16/1 RSA
Bob Ollinger 25/1 RSA
Energumene 25/1 Ryanair
Envoi Allen Marsh and Gold Cup 22’ 28/1
Envoi Allen Gold Cup 22’ 14/1
Monkfish RSA and 22’ Gold Cup 33/1
Shishkin 22' Champ Chase/Envoi Allen 22' Gold Cup 225/1
Shishkin 22' Champ Chase/Monkfish 22' Gold Cup 200/1

I might lose a few of these over the Festival, but pretty much any one of these left standing pays for the rest, and some spectacularly so.

People dismiss them as poor bets too easily. The only thing is tying money up, but we all willingly do that every year anyway.

.

I'd suggest that to make it pay you need to get very lucky...

I disagree. It's part of the antepost game, and they're bets that fit in with your book like any others. By having enhanced odds on horses that are likely to be well fancied at short prices, there's a much higher percentage chance of a return.

Also for those that want to take the risk out, the exchange is there to lay bets off.

I disagree.

And that's fine, it's what makes forums interesting places.
Three criteria however need to go your way; form, health and target and this far out I'm of the view that even for those with better information, judgement and knowledge they still need to get very lucky for all to click.

I started a thread in March last year, no idea where it went, on early Cheltenham 2021 prices and I doubt (can't be sure) the likes of Appreciate It, Shishkin and Galvin were mentioned as serious contenders for the races they currently occupy favouritism, and the likes of GDM, Bob Olinger, Energumene and Stattler wouldn't even have been mentioned/quoted, this happens every year.
I'm still bitter about the 1995 Champion Hurdle when I had the best 2 miler backed multiple times at nice prices, I went to Australia for 6 months, landed back on the Sunday before Cheltenham to find out they had dug up a group 1 flat winner in Alderbrook, as a novice, to take mine on and the rest is history.

Yes there's a process of consideration and judgement but there has to be a huge element of luck too...

Large action ?

The Zanahiyr to with the Triumph and Champion Hurdle at 40/1 is something I keep looking at.

He's 25/1 in the WH market outright, but the vibes about him seem ridiculous in the Triumph, if he won that, what price is he going to be next year?

Lots of ifs and buts, and whether I actually properly fancied him next year is just too much speculation as it'd depend if (and how) he won the Triumph and how the Champion Hurdle winner looks this year, whoever that was...

Still, I've thought about the 40/1...... and now back to the festival that's in less than 3 weeks :smiley_simmons:
