Grand National Meeting; GN/Masters Doubles.

….would Derek O’Connor riding 40-1 shot Presentandcounting for Donald McCain in Aintree Foxhunters be a strange booking?

Not entirely. Derek sources horses for Don so they have a good relationship.

Cross doubles of

Senior Chief
I Am Maximus

and

John Rahm
Xander Schauffele

Might do a long odds double of Stay Away Fay and Justin Rose

Backed INTENSE RAFFLES before he ran in the Bobbyjo. He was available at 14/1 at that time and happy to have him onside. Ground might be against him though with very little rain expected so have been looking for a couple of backup runners and 2 I've landed on are Kandoo Kid & Meetingofthewaters both currently 20/1

….Topham decs could impact GN numbers with a few double declared.

Snared the 16s on Percival this morning, can see this one going off single figures.

What do we think would be a price for there to be any JP winner of the National ?

There's no Aintree thread so I'll add this in here.....

James Du Berlais and Arizona Cardinal finished 1-2 in the Topham last year and both look to have a cracking chance again this season. I've got a slight preference for JDB but he's a difficult horse to win with.

I've done the singles but also added each way doubles with Meetingofthewaters in the National.

Primoz and Sans Bruit are the two I like in the Red Rum. Sans Bruit dotted up in the race last year and is back on a mark of 130, having been rated 143 at the end of December. It wouldn't surprise me if the headgear is put back on and he's had a breathing op. Primoz was well punted in the Grand Annual but lost his race at the start. If he runs, I think he'll be well backed again.

I'm going to wait for final decs as I still have a shortlist (not very short) of just under 20 horses for a race where only 42 are entered so far :highly_amused:

I've got a couple I really like at bigger prices, but unsure if they will run yet.

I’ve just had a go Duffle Coat 100/1 NRNB, if he gets in he’ll be half that price and is one of few who is guaranteed to love the ground…

…..I’ve been chipping away at 100-1 Sky will allow me to have on with 6 places, but I just notice they’ve given him a severe haircut into 50-1. Hills also cut into 50-1. I remember his novice hurdle days when he used to finish like a train.

It’ll be touch and go him getting in.

Pretty sure he is in? The horse with the highest handicap rating at the stage of elimination gets in. I think Roi Mage and Shake were dropped for their runs at Cheltenham, so he gets in.

I've bet him too.

Of those at daft prices, don't think the 150-1 about Idas Boy is bad myself!

See him going off 50-1 tops. Obviously being an 11 year old isn't ideal, but he's only had one run at 3m + and won that race pretty convincingly, looking like he wasn't stopping beating Amirite and only in receipt of 1lb (Duffle Coat well behind). So its decent form and was on good ground too. He was getting within a length of Gerri Colombe off levels a couple of seasons ago and has a few pieces of really nice form to his name.

Related to the likes of Elegant Escape and Monbeg Dude so loads of stamina in his breeding lines. Obviously negatives as you'd expect for one of this price but certainly don't have him as a 150-1 shot and think he's one who could absolutely relish the marathon distance and ground.

Yeah, mentioned him on page 2 Can't Catch Me

Managed to boost him with Hills to around the 180/1 mark :encouragement:

Quite like his profile too. I'm a sucker for horses who have a spin over hurdles prior to a National too.

Nice one! Missed that sorry mate. Price seems mental, albeit it looks a very high class renewal this year.

As for The Masters, its beyond boring and obvious but just can't see past the two principals myself and will be having a dabble on the dual forecast. Golf is the sport I follow most closely from a gambling point of view and struggling to find anyone to back outside of these two right now! Course form, recent form, major pedigrees. Could be some shoot out.

….been no rain to speak of for a while here in Liverpool. The turf is usually lush but I suspect they’ll be watering.
