Only Caldwell Potter interests me from his stable and that isn't a strong view. He just doesn't have the ammo any more and it's difficult to see where the next investment comes from. It's not like everyone is deserting him for all the younger trainers. Nicky still gets plenty from all over the place. It's a shame but it is what it is. Who was the owner he had a big bust up with about 5 years ago? It seems to have gradually gone downhill since then.

Nothing would interest me for the festival but he can still ready one thats being targeted at a big Saturday handicap. Quebecois for the Paddy Power is very interesting. 2 good runs over fences at Cheltenham last season in the notoriously strong novices handicap on trials day and then in the Ultima at the festival, getting outstayed up the run in.

Nice pipe opener where he looked like winning on the bridle until he blew up approaching the last. Nicholls had said a few weeks ago he was looking to give him a run before heading for the Paddy Power.

Currently 20/1, I doubt he’ll be anything like that on the day.

I had Quebecois down as a 2 and a half miler, may have backed him antepost for one of the middle distance handicaps for the festival, only to see he stepped up in trip

I didn’t want to look at the PPGC this early, but I have it written down in big bold writing “the owners do like a winner at Cheltenham”. Good shout

….get the feeling No Drama This End is his flagship.
I’d agree, he was pushed out to 33’s (BANC) at the end of last season following his slightly laboured win over Skelton’s horse at Perth. Noticed Dan gave Tormund Giantsbane a good write up in his stable tour. Be interesting to see if that race proves better than may have initially been thought.

….Jamie Snowden ATR stable tour posted.

Ben Pauling SL tour posted.

It's a question of positioning isn't it, which is a consequence of how conservatively Nicholls started to train his. Presuming I have the cash for a more famous trainer

If I'm an owner who wants Cheltenham winners, I'm probably going Hendo, cos if I have a championship horse, he'll prioritise getting it there for it. A bit too much soppy psychodrama for me personally, but his track record is outstanding

If I want winners and a big day out, maybe even a big one, I'm going Skelton right? Super inventive trainer, I hear he's good value

Anyone got any word for anything due to run Friday at Cheltenham ?

I've just been through the decs, after picking out some on entries.

I'm expecting the ground to worsen to Soft at best by the time they start the first. 🤞
So stamina and fitness should come into play. I've gambled on that in any case.

The ones that caught my eye at the prices

Crooked Path 10-1 1-15
Wondering Why 6-1 2-25
Traprain Law 8-1 3-35

I like Crooked Path coming off a recent win, looks still well handicapped and should be fitter than most and go on the softer ground.

Wondering Why should also like the ground and even it's heavy defeat at Warwick in the spring reads well given the weights and subsequent form. The win at Warwick after that also looks solid form as a few have won and gone up since.

Traprain Law is a bit of a punt based mainly on the likely ground and most of the others preferring better ground, like Calico who he's significantly better off with, based on when they met last year (10lb plus 7lb claim), he may have more stamina than most of the others. Lucinda had a good day at Hexham recently with a couple of wins and a place and the dual purpose amateur jockey looks very useful with 4 wins in his last 6.

Obviously wary of how fit they all are vs the competitors and also what the trainers are looking towards over the season etc.
Won't be going mad, that's for sure.

We have had lots of rain over last two days and looks like more on its way so I did similar and looked for horses that might enjoy ground a bit softer than is usual - there are a lot of good ground horses entered. For those 3 races I landed on Crooked Path and Traprain Law too but on Kapitein Kool in the 2-25 though I totally see the case for Wondering Why. Seamus Mullins has booked Michael Kennealley (he has been using Benjamin Macey but he is claimed by the O'Neill yard) so assume that means he is giving it a go. My concern with Traprain Law is that his first time out record implies that he is usually pretty fit but not razor sharp (i.e. runs well without winning) so will take a look at him first.

We're in Bandook tomorrow, a new Indian street food place in Montpellier where Ask used to be. I'm imagining it's like MumbainCo but smarter but will have to see, it's handy for Harry's & Allbarone's before & after anyway. :)

Bit of a sketchy early market, and a sketchy race but Moon Rocket looks over priced with Ladbrokes and Coral at 20-1 for the pertemps on Saturday,
as low as 7-1 in a place.
Has some good back form over hurdles as a novice but was pulled up twice in the Spring after novice chasing most of the season and his season tailed off like the season before. But he has an excellent record when fresh on first run of season. Trusting that the trainer has him back to something like his best form and his mark looks competitive enough.

Not saying it's the case here, but always be wary of those in the qualifiers off a mark that would already get them into the race. Winning doesn't do them any favours. It's those that need the win to get in which tend to pick up these qualifiers.
