Off to the DRF finally this year. Cheltenham festival, or more specifically, Cheltenham, is just too expensive.

Four of us going. We’ve provisionally reserved a hotel, but would welcome any recommendations from those who have been before. Ideally somewhere near Temple Bar. Thanks in advance.

She had a small setback in early October. Probably nothing to be too worried about, but I'd like to see an entry first.

Missed two weeks with small muscle problem apparently. Likely to return at Wetherby or Ascot. Working back from the Mares Hurdle but likely to take on the boys as well this season as not many Mares only races as options.

Any real reason for wanting to be near Temple Bar? It's pretty shite - and Dublin is very walkable

IMO the best craic around is Lower Baggot Street, 3 of the best pubs in the world within 200m of each other

I've stayed at the academy Plaza on parnell st.

Handy as the airport bus stops just outside and also the tram stop to Leopardstown is just round the corner,
5-10 mins walk to temple bar over the river.
Good bars nearby showing football etc.

And also the Riu Plaza Gresham, which is just round the corner on O'connell.

Both decent and reasonably priced.

Enjoy, :encouragement:

I say reasonable.
But Ireland play England at Rugby next year so you'll obviously be aware of a premium on top of usual prices.
Think the 2 years I went we dodged that.

robith Quevega Thanks both. That's useful stuff to be looking at. Robith - two first timers amongst us who are keen to experience Temple Bar, so one night will be spent there. But I take the point - it's all walkable more or less.

Just back from a stag in Dublin.

Was at the temple bar area Friday night and then sports bar close by the Saturday. Was really good to be fair, needed to remortgage but was well warned about that prior to going so didn’t mind too much.

Suppose that’s the good thing with it being Euros don’t feel like you’re spending much :biggrin-new::biggrin-new:

Are the prices that much different from Cheltenham??

Temple bar itself charge north of 10 eurosa pint and most of the bars around are similar, especially if you get silly ordering white russians etc,
on course at Leopardstown they seemed reasonable.

Lot more places to go than temple bar though.
It's a bit shit really, a once and you're done type of thing.

My favourite was the confession box. still pricey but a lovely place and building.

It's the accommodation for me, Lobos. We were looking at at least double for accommodation in Cheltenham during the festival week (and probably triple on a like for like basis).

Cheaper on track and the lager is decent if you're that way inclined, certainly better than Carling.
Never found prices round Dublin itself that much different to here these days.
Toners is my favourite pub of the ones I can remember the name of, few decent ones in that area.

Cheers guys. Thinking of doing two days racing at Punchestown festival next year.

If going to punches - I'd strongly suggest staying in naas at least 1 night- the town is mental, whereas dublin is the same as any other night

Nah they weren’t to be honest, very similar.

But you don’t expect to pay Cheltenham prices in normal boozers, that’s the problem :biggrin-new:

Likes of Dublin and London are by far the worst.

Was in London the weekend. Pints £7.50. £14 Vodka and Red Bull in Ministry of Sound.
