Jesus tonight. For the sake of this forum, can we all just carry on calling the Turners Hurdle the Ballymore/Gallaghers and the Jack Richards Novices' Chase the Turners or our heads will be spinning :topsy_turvy:

Great quotes by Aiden O’Brien in a recent David Jennings article in the RP about the relationship with horse racing and betting……worth a read.

An acknowledgement about how racing and betting is part of people’s lives and their day to day routine and also that people should be able to have a bet, large or small.

It’s a shame that other high profile trainers (apart from maybe Gosden) haven’t spoken out as clearly in support of betting in relation to the ridiculous restructure financial disclosure legislation, especially as it has such a direct relationship with the continuance of the sport they work within.

The Wallpark is the first Pertemps guaranteed runner and he looked like he had tonnes left in the tank.

Ideal racing style for the new course as well over the 3m. I can't think of the last Pertemps winner who didn't come off the pace. See how much the handicapper raises him for it though and the bookies will put him in short enough.

Any sign of the first mullins stable tour happening any time soon? Usually happens around this time I think.

Colcannon roll up Galway

I don't like entries who won their qualifier as the data doesn't support it, so unless he runs in another and places I'll avoid him.

….i think the qualification criteria has changed this season but i might have read that wrong.

i think from memory , winners are guaranteed a run and the 2nd and 3rd placers qualify for entry , that's the lot if i recall, plenty time for a couple of stinky runs to loose a few pounds ,

From the Jockey Club website

From 2023 any horse finishing in the first four of a qualifying race for the Pertemps Network Final Handicap Hurdle has been eligible for the race at The Festival. From 2025 the race conditions will be altered to provide a guaranteed run in the Pertemps Final for all winners of series qualifiers (provided they are within the weights at declaration stage).

Still top 4 but you could finish top 4 and not make it if theirs enough winners declared that are within the weights.

Top weights over last few years

2024 154
2023 147
2022 156
2021 151
2020 152
2019 148

Top weights carries 11st12. 26 pounds to the bottom weight so looking at high 120s for a winner of a qualifier to get in.

I don't think it always gets filled but if you have a horse who finishes top 4 and they are low 130s, they may get bumped out for a winner on a lower mark.

Might be one for the ‘stupid questions’ thread, but does a winner of a Pertemps Qualifier still need to meet the other, general handicap criteria I.e 5 runs before the festival? Or does winning it sidestep those requirements?
