I just looked at the race Sunday and realised it's an amateur race anyhow, that Derek rides in most years.
Had it been a normal race it'd have been slightly more interesting.
Reckon he might even win on Sunday.
WH have opened with 11/8. Thought there might at least be some 9/4.
But it's not surprising. It's a very poor race.
Glenloe 129
Alpha des Obeaux 123 (7lb claimer from 130)
122
Rest of the 9 are sub 120 horses
His 135 UK rating would be enough to get into most runnings of the Kim Muir. And probably will again.
But I don't think Elliott will be taken any chances given how many times they've missed out on a festival punt with him.
So i think they'd want to go up a couple of pounds to be assured.
Given the ratings of the others in the race, he can without getting a big hike in the ratings.
Anything but and his mark unlikely to go up.
So I don't think there will be a reason for him not to win.
Which hasn't been the case for the last 7 runs / 4 years where the handbrake has been on the whole time over short trips.
He should and probably does win on Sunday for me. At least if he's going to be serious proposition in this race come March.
