Festival Changes

Any live sport needs to balance the needs of its direct customers and indirect consumers. As a media man, Kevin Blake has a vested interest in giving preference to indirect consumers so his comments are easily dismissed and earn him a squiggle in the journalism ratings.

Realistically, Cheltenham would find it difficult to charge £100 for a 5 race card so it would be a financial loser as well unless Kevin's media pals want to cough up more for the rights.
I wouldn't mind the last race being the feature race as long as it was scheduled early enough. Races at 13.00, 13.45, 14.30, 15.15 and 16.00 would work, logistically at least.

A stream of bets on the 3m2f race has seen it cut to 2nd favourite to be scrapped


It appears the Kim Muir Handicap Chase could be the one to make way for the new Mares Chase at the 2021 Cheltenham Festival, as the bookie offering odds has cut the race from 7/1 to 9/4.


The Novice Handicap Chase has drifted but remains the 6/4 favourite whilst the Juvenile Handicap Hurdle is third in the market at 11/4.
98% of bets on the market have been on the Amatuer riders’ race, which was won by Derek O’Connor for Ted Walsh on board Any Second Now.


Oddschecker spokesman, Callum Wilson: "It appears the amateur riders might have one less shot at a festival winner in 2021 as the betting trends suggest the Kim Muir is the one that will be scrapped.


"The proportion of money going on the market makes you think that the punters might just know something."

If true it would be a disgrace to bin a race with 75 renewals of history for a race few people want and even fewer think is needed.
There is no justification for keeping the day one nov ‘cap chase when two other options exist in my opinion...

No, it's a witch hunt against amateurs in light of public perception isn't it
 
Does seem the amateurs are the fall guys, shame no-one seems to be respecting the games roots...
 
Patrick Mullins was on Luck on Sunday and mentioned he, Jamie Codd and Derek O'Connor offered to be involved or for advice in the amateur race discussions.
BHA decided against it. Mad to think that. And adds further fuel for having an agenda against the amateurs...

It could be the beginning of the end for amateur races if we lose the Kim Muir. The bonus is it'll be more difficult for them to add a 5th day.
