Drf 2023

Totally agree and deserves its own thread. It's becoming a true Festival. For many of the horses in Championship races at Cheltenham, it's here or nowhere given how few opportunities there are in Ireland. Some more races close this week, so we'll know much more by the end of the week, Its coming up fast!

The Irish arkle, flogas, nathaniel lacey etc look sure to throw up horses with huge chances

This nh season has been a flop so far, the Drf looks set to change that

interesting Hiddenvalley lake is so short for the nathaniel lacey I thought he was going elsewhere

Think HDB mentioned the race he sent monalee and minella indo to

American mike and grangeclare west would interest me if I knew they were targeted at it. Both 10/1.

I'd go one step further and say individual races deserve their own thread. The races are that big.

I'd agree with that. We would get better discussion with individual threads.

Done. I can't think of anything messier or less useful than discussing 8 grade 1's on one thread!!!

Looking at the big handicap at 3.40 I like the look of Byrnes horse Grozni at 10/1 with 365. Won last time out over 3m and with the 5lb claimer on board he’s carrying a featherweight.

Its a step up in class obviously but with each way 5 places I’ve taken a chance.

Yeah I like this … byrnes also has a good record in the handicaps since the inception of this festival

Liberty Dance is the rightful favourite in the Mares handicap hurdle but you've got to take her on at the price.

Risk Belle getting 12 pounds weight for age is pretty huge isn't it (I'm assuming that accounts for the 12 pounds extra difference between them then their handicap marks but happy to be corrected if I'm wrong)?

I'd be taking her on as well though. Shes been beaten pretty easily by the decent juveniles so far and may just not be that talented. Molly's Glory stands out to me.

She finished 13 and a half lengths behind Liberty Dance in December but made mistakes at the third and second last.

Half a length behind Belle the Lioness last time. Belle the Lioness finished 5 and half lengths behind Liberty Dance in Liberty Dances last race.

20 pounds difference between Molly's Glory and Liberty Dance now. In a wide open race, 20s each way will give me some interest.

Molly's Glory is interesting and the jockey looks like one to keep an eye on. Bet 365 are 25s, 6 places and BOG. I felt it would be rude not to. Thanks for highlighting her.

I was looking through the mares handicap hurdle at the drf today.
one at bigger odds of interest is De lady in red. Last seen in this race last year off 1lb higher, falling at the 5th when travelling well enough, looked like she slipped on landing, rather than a fall because she didn't hurdle nicely. she was 12/1 last year.
The form of the trainer this year appears to have gone up a level.
The jockey michael o'sullivan takes a further 5lb off so she runs off a mark of 116.
She's available with sky bet @ 33/1, 6 places.
It's interesting she hasn't run since last years race, I think connections may have felt unlucky last year, she really was travelling and hurdling well, it's a valuable race which i think she would have been targeted at since that day.
She's definitely worth a look.

Gaelic Warrior should be a good thing in the 2m handicap but there's enough negatives to look elsewhere.

Not sure I can let an Elliott horse ridden by Russell go off at over 50s on the exchange. Small win bet and possibly play the w/o market at 22s each way on The Tide Turns.

That is good news, already booked my hotel for next year, most enjoyable 2 days racing I’ve had.

Not DRF related but does any of our Irish brethren know if they have had a rejig of the Troytown meeting at Navan for later this year? I thought Navan had 2 Sunday fixtures every November but seems they're holding a Saturday-Sunday weekend meeting in November 2023. Their next fixture isn't until mid-December which seems very late for the Troytown in comparison to previous years.

It's all part of giving Navan and then Punchestown both weekend type festivals for the two prior weekends to the big winter festival weekend at Fairyhouse. So, 3 consecutive weekends in Ireland pre Christmas.
