County Hurdle 2018

My selection Hunter call was a NR so I have been reading up on this race for days and I keep coming back to one horse Bleu Et Rouge.. It would take a lot for a horse to win this off top weight 11.12 but his form is very good..

2nd to Kalashnikov 4 1/2L Soft
4th to Hunters Call 6L G/S
5th to Buveur D'Air 9 3/4L Soft
1st beat Tombstone 3L Soft to Heavy

But the big weight keeps stopping me going in and on this ground..

What Arctic Fire done last year was nothing short of sensational and IMO a bit of a freak, he was 2nd in a Champion Hurdle, a race I think Bleu Et Rouge would probably be a 20-25/1 shot for, no doubt he'll run his race and all the while the ground is in his favour will probably run a big race at that too, but as a winner? He wouldn't be my ideal profile.

He is favourite with most firms and represents no value to myself personally, I think he may well place but at the price isn't much a value proposition.

In terms of value, the 3rd in the Betfair Hurdle, Spiritofthegames @ 25/1 would be a better bet IMO, has 8 lengths to make up with Bleu Et Rouge but has a 5lb swing from that race, he also ran a cracker in the Lanzarote in 2nd behind William Henry 2 runs back, that one is now favourite for the Coral Cup today

I couldn't 100% put you off Bleu Et Rouge, so wish you the best of luck with him, but for me there are stronger cases out there :)

I agree, plus I do not like the jockey... and he is not value any more.. Lagostovegas has caught my eye now lol... maybe a rv/fc

Not sure if this one is a none runner or a mistake but every bookies is going 12/ 14/1 & 16/1 on Chesterfield even the exchanges is going 18/1 but betway is going 33/1 not sure its nrnb with them but thats pretty good value for a horse some bookies think will go off near fav... just hate 1pt on...

Did anyone else think 33/1 for a 14/1 chance is madness.. Betway must know something?

That's the final declarations so NRNB doesn't apply.

This race is causing me a headache. I currently stand with bets on Flying Tiger (20/1), Meri Devie (25's), Spiritofthegames (20 & 25's) and Mohaayed (33's) yet now I keep thinking the winner comes from elsewhere.

After pretty much making a case against Bleu Et Rouge I am now looking at him as a solid proposition, by solid I can see him placing with the potential to win. I still think Spiritofthegames can get closer, but he is now 14/1 so he now doesn't appeal, I have bets on him, as above, but 6 places are now available.

The weight, as Sirbetalot put earlier in the thread, is also a big concern for Bleu Et Rouge.

My worry with Flying Tiger is that it took every ounce of Richard Johnson's drive in the finish to get him up last season, and Fehily is not as strong in the finish as Johnson for me. That said, Fehily seems to get them travelling better for him so maybe that's a positive on the jockey booking.

I have a shortlist of about 7 or 8 and can't back them all.

Just wondered how everyone else was looking for this race?

ive a similar list but cashed mohaayed cos of jockey and trainer form, and you might get bigger price in morning.
i put it on ben dundee earlier at 25s with price boost

I've got 5 in this race and find myself annoyed that I am not on:

Bleu Et Rouge
Duca De Thaix

and I like the case Andy Holding has made for:

Sandsend
Brelade

I've got:
Flying Tiger 33s and 20s
Ivanovic Gorbatov 25s
Moon Racer 25s
Chesterfield 33s
Mohaayed 33s

Somebody tell me I've already got the winner :(

I’ve done Flying Tiger @ 11/1 and Whisky Sour @ 11/1

Sandsend could be an absolute monster and we look back on this race and laugh that he went off at double figures. But I’ll take that risk. The big field may be a bit of a culture shock. I do think he will go on to be the best out of this lot in a year or two time though.

Don’t think I have ever backed the winner of this - taking a chance with Brelade at the prices

Some early money for Whiskey Sour this morn, think one or two other Mullins runners being backed too, in other races

I've cashed out 1 pt e/w on Mohaayed at 33/1 ante post 4 places

and backed

Mohaayed 1 pt e/w at 33/1 5 places

You might need a few more places with bridget the fidget on board, I cashed out and went elsewhere

Hovering over Moon Racer and Ivanovic Gorbatov to do the same :devilish:

Probably... but I'd never ever forgive myself cashing out on the morning of the race if it then won.

... but a no brainer to take the extra place at the same odds.

yep
I've already cashed out a couple this week on the morning. It takes some discipline which is not my strongest point normally
I'm on moon racer at 33's but can't cash out. but i reckon i would if i could.

I'm tempted to casho ut and take the shorter price for more places as I don't really fancy either anymore on the ground

you never know I suppose, last years county was a strange result. Was on Gorbatov last year at 33's and couldn't believe SP.
