County Hurdle 2018

Think Campeador has a real chance in this off 150; particularly if we get decent ground

Gone completely under the radar this year. The only thing I have reservations about is the 150 mark

Talented definitely but has hit the deck with great regularity for my liking.
I’d also like to see another run in him, that last effort was over Christmas, I haven’t checked the stats but I’m not expecting such an absence to be a positive for this race....

Fair comment but he's a horse who has always run best fresh soI wouldn't be at all concerned about the absence (and not a trends guy either)

Wouldn't say he went under the radar, Robante put him up on the opening post on this thread, and I believe he took the 33's, admittedly there wasn't much talk after about him but the season started and many others had started to perform then, but 16/1 is plenty short enough for me currently in what is a tough race anyway, even more so given his 150 rating.

I doubt there will be another Arctic Fire this year, which would put him right up there in giving weight away.

Jezki could well be this year's arctic fire.
152 or

Campeador just isn't a 150 horse imo.

Does anybody know if this is the plan for David's Charm. Rated 143 and I felt he had plenty in hand when winning in December.

BV are 25/1, 16s NRNB not enough to tempt me unless I knew it was the aim.

I like the fact they've had a break though, makes me think they think the mark is still workable!

I also have been waiting for him, was going to back him months ago, but willhill never priced him up for this when other bookies did, so that put me off backing him.. if he runs at cheltenham I will be backing him, seems to handle most goings. was down to run a few weeks ago but they pulled him out, maybe to save his mark?

Sorry just remembered why I have not backed in. I did read this sometime back...

Davids Charm, who was made a 20-1 shot for the County Hurdle after landing the €100,000 Bar One Racing Handicap Hurdle under Rachael Blackmore at Fairyhouse this month, is set to miss the Cheltenham Festival, trainer John Joe Walsh has revealed.

"He won't be going to Cheltenham," said Walsh. "I don't think he'll be experienced enough for that and even though he's had eight runs over hurdles, he's terribly green.

Thanks. Another off my ever dwindling shortlist :highly_amused:

Does the poor form from last years juveniles worry you about Meri Devie? I can't think of any 5yo this season that was racing last year doing anything notable?

Mohaayed 33/1 I have added

Yes it does a little.

She is more a speculative punt, as I feel she benefit from the better ground than she keeps encountering in Ireland, also a stiff track like Cheltenham will suit too.

She may of course go elsewhere still as well, but I wouldn't want to be backing her for the Martin Pipe, which is the other alternative I believe.

Mohaayed was unlucky last season, and I feel could at least place this season, he wasn't without support for the race IIRC.

As I wondered somewhere earlier, one of my novice chasers is going back to hurdles. Bunk Off Early has an entry for this and the Martin Pipe (no chance I'd have thought!) and it will be interesting to see what mark he gets.

are the entries out?

They closed at noon today. Probably released this week with the weights at the end of the month. 88 in the County.

Entries are released Thursday, with the weights released on 1st March I think.

Is that confirmed FM ? It's always been a Wednesday media launch in the past...

I thought it was Wednesday but @AntepostPunter on Twitter said it's Thursday for handicap entries

Anyone think A Hare Breath has a decent chance in this?

Ben Pauling talks about him being purposfully off since his handicap win at Sandown (had the likes of Caid Du Lin, William H Bonney, Jenkins all beaten) and that this is the target.

Was novice chasing last year (finished 7th in Altior's Arkle) ... but isn't up to that grade over fences... (or hurdles perhaps)?

WH are 20/1 with NR insurance which isn't unfair...

Not backed him but interested to know he's fully been laid out for it
