Coral Cup 2018

Are they lining up Diamond King for a repeat win after his failed Chase handicap attempt last year?

2016 he won Coral Cup beating Long House Hall, off a mark of 149.

He has twice in his life been entered on soft/heavy and been pulled out, but on his first start this year he ran on soft and got "nicely" beaten by Killultagh Vic...

Doesn't have a hurdle rating at the moment so I will keep my eye out for entries...

Only 14/1 NRNB
25/1 WH insurance
33/1 with BV

Have I missed any news on him...

Any chance The Storyteller has been chasing to preserve his hurdle mark for this?

They tested the water on his seasonal debut, after being given an Irish mark of 142 over hurdles, finishing 2nd that day to Chateau Conti, who has done absolutely nothing for that form since, however I'd suspect he needed the run after nearly 300 days off the track, and it wasn't a terrible performance by any means.

Since that seasonal debut he has been chasing, and whilst being consistent, has probably shown that he can't compete right at the very top, well not yet anyway. I think they could choose worse options for the horse than switching back to hurdles for the festival and this, for me, represents a nice target.

14/1 NRNB with 365 currently, I have had myself some of that.

The story teller was all the rage for the Martin pipe in the run up to the festival last year.

Think that's a good shout CoD. Thought the Novice Handicap Chase was the plan initially but think he will be too high for that race now. He doesn't look up to the Graded Novice Chases, so doesn't seem to have anywhere to go over fences at the Festival now.

Elliott also mentioned in his stable tour at the start of the season he would be one for handicap hurdles.

I had Top Of the Game lined up for this before last weekend, I am now leaning toward that Nichols horse that was mentioned here a few weeks back Djingle. I think they will go down the APS route of first run in UK.

As well as The Storyteller, whom I backed earlier in the week, I have been looking at Diese Des Bieffes for this race too.

Currently 16/1 NRNB, He was supposedly outpaced over his first try at this trip at Kempton back in January, which is a flat track anyway and may not have suited, and given he had won over 2m this season I'm not entirely convinced it was him being 'outpaced' as the description said, more that he couldn't quicken in 'soft' ground, as his best form has been on 'Good', which is what I am hoping he may encounter at the festival.

He has some nice form with If The Cap Fits, who looks the leading contender for the Supreme for entries this side of the Irish Sea, which is a positive.

My main worry is him not getting into the race due to his rating, but if he does he will have an extremely low weight, and not one to be ignored from possibly the best stable in the country.

He's currently rated 137, 2 horses got in the race last season off 136, so there is a possibility, worst case is I get my money back.

DDB is likely to re-oppose William Henry in this, another Henderson trained runner, but I think this track and better ground can see him turn the tables with that stable mate, and also at current ratings has a 4lb turn in the weights from their previous run at Kempton.

I see he may also run in the Martin Pipe, which I will also cover him for as NRNB, but I do think he'd be better suited, if he can get in of course, for this race.

Was talking to a mate yesterday who was talking to a lad he knows who is a racehorse photographer.

He reckons they are setting Mohaayed up for a tilt at this. Now im a bit confused as I had him
Down for the County. I’ve now ended up with nrnb for both races just in case.

These handicaps are a nightmare.

Barters Hill into 7/2 from 8s overnight for the 3m handicap at Newbury tomorrow

I backed him yesterday but I’m a bit hopeful he gets outstayed tomorrow and comes here rather than the stayers

They've said a few times its stayers or nothing... I'm taking that at face value

I'm getting good at this Google lark :highly_amused:

"I have no reason to believe the injury will cause him any ill effects. We didn't know what to expect when we started out on this journey and we still don't now really, although he appears to have retained plenty of his ability in his work.

"Everyone will be watching Barters Hill and we want him to come home safe and sound. I'm aware he has to get through Saturday first, but if we went to Cheltenham we will have the option of the Coral Cup or the Stayers' Hurdle.

That was from Pauling himself.

That's much more plausible then.

I'm not sure where he would need to finish to make the Coral Cup the best option?

He has to win tomorrow to book his place and if he won tomorrow he'd have too much weight in the Coral Cup?

I love Barters Hill absolutely loads. 20/1 NRNB ... I'd just taken it far too literally that he won't run here. Nothing to lose now

A half decent run, maybe pushed up a few lbs?

I really like the horse, too.

Backed him for this as soon as they went NRNB, and couldn't resist trying to pay for my summer hotel upgrade tomorrow :p

Anywhere imo. I cant see him winning with distance between them over 3 with his run style. He's far superior over 2m5 imo. And Pauling would have missed a trick for me. He's not a 3 miler.
Hopefully he retains a fair amount of his ability. He wouldn't need all of it to win the coral of a similar mark.

Well would have no chance in the stayers hurdle.

Defintiely better suited to this race but unlikely runner now? - I'm sure we'll find out within half an hour.

He never would have
I'd still be happy with him here he's never wanted 3m. Could even get into the martin pipe now. But preference for a low weight here.

Haha, you can never say never. If he'd won by 57 lengths today he definitely would have had a chance in the stayers :p

Did he show enough today to say he retains enough ability to win any race at the festival? I thought he jumped poorly and just emptied out. They made it clear enough that today was to see where he is at, and he isn't up to winning any race at the festival ... so will they pull up stumps? Or will they go against what they said?

I'd run him in the coral cup. Nothing was in his favour here id be dissapointed to end like that. He wants 2 1/2 gd to soft. If hes got it left. That's how you'll find out

365 who were 20/1 offered 90% cash out .... but have put him 33/1 for the coral cup.
