Claisse said: "I still think racing will start with the ground given as good to soft, good in places, but that could change during the afternoon.
"We've now had no rain for a week and the next 24 hours are also due to be dry and sunny with double-figure temperatures. After that there is rain forecast for Wednesday morning, with 2mm to 3mm expected, and then another 4mm to 5mm late Thursday afternoon. Given that current forecast I do not anticipate any further watering taking place."
Those walking the Old course have noted a lusher strip of ground on the inside racing line, which Claisse pointed out is the area set aside as soon as last year's festival finished. Assessing the condition of the racecourse as a whole, he added: "Given the cold conditions this winter I'm pleased with the grass growth and think the track looks in good nick."
