The new style hurdles are supposed to be safer. I think they are far too stiff. When the decision was made to introduce them there should have been consistency at every track. As it is, horses are able to brush through the tops or even flatten hurdles at other tracks, but when they come to Cheltenham even minor mistakes are punished severely. I think it is unfair. Either they should be prevented from learning poor habits at all tracks or the Cheltenham design should be changed. Personally I like to see hurdlers brush through the top. If these stupid white things were in use in the 70s I doubt we would have had the golden age. Nicky Henderson is on record saying the white top bars did for Constitution Hill.
