Cheltenham Festival Handicaps

Mall Dini runs at Gowran tomorrow. I can't work out what they are hoping for tomorrow.

Was just thinking the exact same thing FM. Can't understand it either. Unless they've been going easy on him and just think one more run might put him spot on?

Almost certain NOT to win tomorrow?! There wouldn't be any point at all in him winning that I can fatham.

Will they try and get him lower and near the top of the Kim Muir? Davy to be first off the bridle, giving it the full, all action fake drive :highly_amused:

Haha, odds on to do so Kev. :D

Davy's blog from today..."There is no getting away from the fact that Mall Dini has been a little disappointing this season and he takes his chance in a competitive looking beginners’ chase (1.20pm).

He has been placed in all four starts over fences without actually managing to get his head in front, and faces tough opposition in the form of Jett and Bachasson.

I rode Jett to finish second to Yorkhill on his latest start last month and that form makes him the one to beat here."

...not a glowing update (... so probably piss it !) :sorrow:

He ran the same time of year last season as his prep for Cheltenham so maybe they want to keep the same routine...

Every word of that screams absolute prep for it all to fall right at Cheltenham.

They'd take any odds you wanted for MAll Dini to finish ahead of Jett tomorrow.... To quote the best show of all time...

eye-catching run from Mall Dini today over a trip to short. Scrappy jump at the last even better.

Where do we think Heartbreak City & Sutton Place will end up Coral or County?

I just can't believe it. I have no idea what the purpose of that run was. To me they've got VERY lucky that he blundered at the last! I don't for a second believe they wanted that, but can anyone explain to me why he ran this weekend?

When asked if he could be supplemented for one of the races in Cheltenham, Elliott added: "No, definitely not."

I'm afraid not Mon Brav, Elliott confirms on Sporting Life.:grumpy:

Ultima. Won't get dropped today in Ireland and that'll be over 145 when phil decides the weights. I'd say that is a certain target for Mall Dini after today

Cheers Kev, that was my thoughts as well, maybe they were hoping for a little drop.

Didn't ride him to get him dropped...but that just must ooze confidence that he could win the Ultima with a hike in the weights?

I believe Heartbreak City might be going back on the flat now. Also, his mark is so low he'd probably struggle to get in either race even with the inflation.

Hi Kev,
Not sure what you mean with your above comment? MD ran 20/02 last year at fairyhouse on the way to winning at the festival. Saturdays race looks like a carbon copy of last years route. Makes perfect sense to me.

You said the run was eye-catching, over a trip too short.

He was very well backed, and going very well before making an error.

He already had a nice Irish rating that would get him in the Ultima with a nice racing weight and without the blunder I think they would have gone up in the weights quite a bit, lessening the chances of winning at the festival.

The positive for me is that they MUST think he is well ahead of his mark when stepped back up in trip, because running toda (without a lucky blunder) would have increased his mark... If I wanted to win at the festival again, I wouldn't have wanted him to win yesterday.
