Cheltenham Festival Handicaps

Quite like how Gordon Elliott is playing chess with the English handicapper.. Cause of causes givin 153, so he runs him and finished tailed off at Cheltenham today.. Surely has to drop him a few pounds?

His run style does lend itself to being dropped ... but this must be the most "on the radar" horse in training? The handicapper will go off his opinion, not what he has seen. Very interesting...

With any other horse the handicapper would drop him a couple of lb for that run but I'd put money on PS just ignoring yesterday as he can easily justify it by saying he just didn't take to the fences.

At least he can't put him any higher than 153 for Cheltenham.

Yeah Iv been thinking that, that's the only snag with horse bandits being laid out for the big caps at the festival.. Same case with Holywell I think

Would you be worried about the run style in the Ultima? I think you can get away with it in the Kum Muir and 4 miler.... but it'll be a better performance than ever to pick everyone off against "the pro's"?

Holywell you've got to be hoping for good ground which is a bit difficult for ante-post... even though we know it is lvery likely to be.... he is short enough in the market?

CoC travels well in his races Kev, I don't think he needs to be held up stone last (from memory he wasn't in the NH Chase - I'll have to check). Codd said they went far too fast in the Kim Muir last season which is why he sat well off pace.

NH chase - "Held up in rear, headway 3 out (usual 4 out), led bypassing omitted last, edged left towards finish, stayed on, driven out"

I have backed CoC... just a little wary that the run style can get him beat in a race with better jockies than Codd has faced. Certainly much less likely to gert the pace wrong. I hope he doesn't need to be held up... I think a very good animal would get first run on him. Probably a certainty for a place if lining up.

***25s with the WH NRNB offer**** that isn't bad for anyone not already on? I suppose the target is assured though?

Who's to say codd will be on board.. If Barry thinks he's the idea of the winner won't he pull rank?

Yeah good point. I'd be happy with that. Barry can get him placed where The Druids Nephew was :encouragement:

Just don't see them doing it... Barry loves to drop them in too... clearly is suits the horse though.

Codd won't be on board. It'll be BJG or Mark Walsh I'd imagine.

The one I quite like the look yesterday was Man Of Plenty be interesting runner if he got in a handicap ran a close 2nd to William H Bonney. Also a little bit of rain night before might help.

Where are we thinking cause of causes most likely runs?

Would surely be the Ultima, won't be on the necessary mark for the Kim Muir

Can only be the Ultima in the handicaps. Maybe they'll skip Cheltenham and go straight for the national.

They went for both last year, could be likely again?

I'd imagine Cheltenham will be on his agenda but I suppose there has to be a chance they'd skip the race. Only 3 1/2 weeks between the two races this time around.

Yeah its not the biggest of gaps. We'll soon find out

CoC didn't get into the grand national last year.. I think that's why they weren't trying to drop his mark by as much this year.. GN weights are released before Cheltenham.. So if he is say 150 hell do both races

He did get into it he was pulled up?
