Melon, UNWIMH, DDS and Thistlecrack all to place 16/1 with Skybet, huge price I think. Chucked a couple of pts on it

Maximum bet £3.12. :sorrow:
Ah cheers Faugheen - first thoughts are that's still seems a pretty decent price?
Think so, Melon to place even, DDS even, Thistle 1/2, UNWIMH 1/3 ish...
That accy is only 7/1?

Has the bet gone completely? I still can't see it at 12's? :grumpy:
The betting gods clearly don't want me to place this bet!!
Was just having a look over the top trainer odds for the festival again. JP is obviously clear favourite in this and he has a pretty wide spread of fancies throughout the weekend and that's before we've even looked at the handicap entries.
It may be worth having a check at the odds after the end of play Wednesday. Arguably his best chances at the festival are:
UNWIMH - World Hurdle - Thursday Race 5
Defi du Seuil / Triumph runner - Friday Race 1
On the Fringe - Foxhunters - Friday Race 5
If he's behind at that point the bookmakers may overreact based on the first few days. Especially when it only takes 3-4 wins to usually win it.
Please forgive me if this is the wrong thread but i have been meaning to ask, in betting 'jargon' what is a point ?
I have noticed throughout various topics that people are wagering 2 pts win or 0.5 pts E/W. Is a point a value (i.e 1 pt = £1, or 1 pt = £5 etc) or is it a confidence that you may have in a horses chances of winning (i.e 0.5 pts = outsiders chance, 1pt = lively chance, 2pts - cant be beat, for example)
I have wondered this for a while and before i let you know how many of my 'points' now wont run i thought it worth finding out!!

Hi joleg.
You are right with your first bit.
Someone on here might be betting £1000 = 1 point...others £1 = 1 point. Talking in pounds(£££) COULD make it difficult to have decent debate on horses, because (rightly or wrongly) if someone bets £1 on a race and someone else bets £1000, you're much more likely to be swayed by the punter who is betting more.... HOWEVER, that shouldn't cloud your opinion... it may be that they are a millionaire and £1000 is the equivilant of £1 to you, and vice versa.
I find talking in points takes the actual amount of out it... I think you can guess what stakes some people are at fairly easily but I think it is more courtesy than anything. Others may have differing views though.
