Cheltenham 2017 Antepost Bets

At first I didn't put it on, then went back and took it.

I'll get what I want on by hook or by crook :)

It's still there Jono - just 12/1, rather than 16/1

Ah cheers Faugheen - first thoughts are that's still seems a pretty decent price?

Think so, Melon to place even, DDS even, Thistle 1/2, UNWIMH 1/3 ish...

That accy is only 7/1?

Was just having a look over the top trainer odds for the festival again. JP is obviously clear favourite in this and he has a pretty wide spread of fancies throughout the weekend and that's before we've even looked at the handicap entries.

It may be worth having a check at the odds after the end of play Wednesday. Arguably his best chances at the festival are:

UNWIMH - World Hurdle - Thursday Race 5
Defi du Seuil / Triumph runner - Friday Race 1
On the Fringe - Foxhunters - Friday Race 5

If he's behind at that point the bookmakers may overreact based on the first few days. Especially when it only takes 3-4 wins to usually win it.

I worked this out on my Mcdonalds receipt eating my lunch - thought at 12s it looked big let alone 16

Has the bet gone completely? I still can't see it at 12's? :grumpy:

The betting gods clearly don't want me to place this bet!!

Yes very good point/angle. I am going to set a reminder in my phone to check those odds. CH, Mares, CC and Ricci could be 3-0 up? (Of course hopefully Wylie has it sewn up by that point)

After seeing two of the horses in person and one week before. I have decided to go for a small Treble each way. Gone for Bristol De Mai Ryanair 12's think its just a year early for this fella for the Gold cup as 6 year olds don't have a good record. Wholestone 8's becoming a fan of this horse backed him at 16's and also 8's after his race Saturday and last horse I have backed is Royal Vacation 20's for the Rsa was quite impressed how he travelled all way round and up the hill. What do u guys think of the small bet? Have to be lucky with the ground of course on the day.

Royal Vacation 20's
Bristol De Mai 12's
Wholestone 8's

Please forgive me if this is the wrong thread but i have been meaning to ask, in betting 'jargon' what is a point ?

I have noticed throughout various topics that people are wagering 2 pts win or 0.5 pts E/W. Is a point a value (i.e 1 pt = £1, or 1 pt = £5 etc) or is it a confidence that you may have in a horses chances of winning (i.e 0.5 pts = outsiders chance, 1pt = lively chance, 2pts - cant be beat, for example)

I have wondered this for a while and before i let you know how many of my 'points' now wont run i thought it worth finding out!!

To me a point is just a way of saying how much to bet and a way of confidence I guess. To one person putting a £10 on a horse means you really fancy it and to others £100 means the same. I see it as a way of expressing how much youve bet without revealing the stake

Hi joleg.
You are right with your first bit.

Someone on here might be betting £1000 = 1 point...others £1 = 1 point. Talking in pounds(£££) COULD make it difficult to have decent debate on horses, because (rightly or wrongly) if someone bets £1 on a race and someone else bets £1000, you're much more likely to be swayed by the punter who is betting more.... HOWEVER, that shouldn't cloud your opinion... it may be that they are a millionaire and £1000 is the equivilant of £1 to you, and vice versa.

I find talking in points takes the actual amount of out it... I think you can guess what stakes some people are at fairly easily but I think it is more courtesy than anything. Others may have differing views though.

We all probably punt a little more than we should But the true value of risk is only known to that person. making the stake irrelevant as Kev says.

That said I think points are more appropriate to singles bets. If someone has a nice double or treble on at 200/1 I want to know if they have a quid on or 20 quid on.. as It's nice to see these ante post bets coming off and landing a sizeable return by anyone's standards
