Champion Hurdle 2020

Really fancy Pentland tomorrow and think he’s a proper fair price. I understand people having doubts about the form last year but what more can the horse do but win his race. There’s no doubt he’s going to be a stronger horse this year so will obviously improve but to be honest I don’t think he’ll have to improve to beat this lot tomorrow.

Question marks over most of those at the head of the market, I’ve taken a chance that Elizir de Nutz will come back strong tomorrow and the fact Tizzard keeps this one over timber suggests he believes the horse is capable of going close in a champion hurdle.
33/1 looks fair to me, any sort of positive performance tomorrow will see his price collapse as the market looks for credible candidates....

Can't make my mind up re the Intl tomorrow. My head says I should be backing Pentland for the Churdle but somethings stopping me. The one I like is Elixr and he's a huge price for March but I doubt he'll be classy enough. They are the only two I can take out of the race before it's ran with the Churdle in mind if that makes sense. Not going to do them both so will probably plump for Tizzards boy

They said he wasn’t “classy enough” & Rock on Ruby turned over greater opposition than EDN will face in this year’s CH. I was on ROR that day in 2012 & have backed EDN accordingly e/w... especially given the current prices. Yes he has to step up but he could well do at a decent price...

If chtibello drifts past 5/1 as I expect, I'll likely have a small crack at him EW tomorrow. I dont see anything for the champion hurdle itself in this field.
I'd even fancy supasundae to take this and hes a 40/1 shot for the CH.

Hed need to improve a hel of alot on his novice form to be getting anywhere near a CH. Itchy feet and thomas darby placed in the supreme but they were held right up with quiet rides to come home late when the winner had flown. I wouldn't have liked elixir de nutz chances up the front. And his other form with grand sancy and southfield stone looks pretty rubbish too, compared to champion hurdle calibre.

All be it, it dosent look the strongest renewal. But even the likes off supasundae would be well above that.

Completely agree, but every horse has to improve on their novice form to win a championship race.
It’s a flyer granted, but it’s a 33/1 flyer...

See Call Me Lord has been declared for the International tomorrow, so Hendo is prepared to try him left handed. Been a big fan of this horse for some time and in hindsight think a strongly run 2 miles is the trip for him. In anticipation of the declaration I asked 365 to price up the CHurdle earlier in the week but they quoted a paltry 16/1. Billy’s have him at 40s which I think could be huge if he can prove his effectiveness left handed and over the course. Taken a chance with the boosted 40s for this and backed at 5s e/w tomorrow.

Similar mindset
Have monies running onto Elixir but IF CML can negotiate ( certainly hasn’t in the past ) left handed then has to be a player
Not convinced on Pentland Hills yet
Not convinced much quality for what’s looking a poor CH renewal in 2020
Sooo to summarise , don’t know!!:highly_amused:

Chtibello is an 8, going on 9 year old handicapper, that is hit and miss IMO.

I'd expect Pentland Hills to take care of him. Call Me Lord would be the one I'd be interested in of the rest.

I'll stand by this. Call Me Lord and the money has come since midweek

Cheers Scooby. You've talked me out of doing Elixr. Having looked at the form more deeply I agree with you that Chitibello has a chance in the Intl. Reading Skelton's comments, today's race has been the plan and the only plan for him do you can be sure he will be ready. He has a good turn of foot as well so he can sit behind Elixr and win with one run after the last. Don't think any of these though will be good enough to shake them up in March.

Doesn't look a strong renewal and I don't think we're going to learn a lot today unless something really impresses. Pentland Hill's is not backable at the price and neither is Call Me Lord who has to prove he can go left handed. Chʼtibello is probably more interesting at the prices but with a view to this I just can't have being good enough and I would say the same for Elixir De Nutz, who could prove me wrong. Don't think there's any point mentioning the rest.

Agree. Just proves what a poor bunch we have this season vying for the big one. Step forward Honeysuckle and Envoi Allen.......soz, shouldn't have brought that up again....

Anyone that fancies Pentland Hills must think the 11/4 is an absolute gift today.

7/1 to win the Champion Hurdle but 11/4 to beat this field?

Odd, odd CH market.

The comments re the Int'l has made my mind up to back Eptante for the Churdle. Was there when she won impressively at Newbury. Hendo sticking to 2 miles and she runs next in the Xmas Hdle. She'll get the Mares allowance which is a massive advantage. If she was in today's race I'd back her to beat these so the 25/1 for the Churdle looks generous to me on that basis

20/1 for Pentland Hills to do the double (win today and CH) is an infinately better bet than the 7/1 now...

Not that anybody is probably considering taking 7/1 before he runs today :highly_amused:

Seems a contradiction to fancy Epatante in a weak looking Champion Hurdle but be 99% sure Honeysuckle goes to the mares

Sorry that might seem confusing. I am joining comments made in 2 threads. You fancy Epatante for a Champion Hurdle with the mares allowance being 'a massive advantage' but are 99% certain Honeysuckle will go for the mares. In a weak division I just thought that was odd. Honeysuckle would benefit from the same allowance and I don't need to tell the founder of her fan club than on all known form she's the better horse. In hindsight, 'contradiction' is not the right word because I'm missing gaping context when it comes to connections, what they've said re targets etc, but hopefully you get what I mean

Got it now. We've probably done the Honey to Churdle thing to death. Connections say 99% Mares so no point talking of her as a Churdle horse. Personally think if she did go there she would not be the same horse as she looks made for 2 1/2 miles and just doesn't jump quick and low enough for 2 miles. Epatante on the other hand looks a proper 2 miler and connections are routing her that way which makes her a far better betting proposition.

I agree, I do like Epatante but not in the book, yet

Jumped well but went out like a light when it mattered. Should come on a lot from the run
