It's 'Good - Good/Soft'. If she needs a lot of cut in the ground then I'd hold less hope of her turning up for this or the festival anyway. We don't get a bog like it was last season every year.
 
Have all these champion hurdle contenders had hip replacements
Not running horses on Good to Soft is just being daft.
But Willie does like wrapping them in Cotton Wool.
Don't look good for this race though, Mares more and more likely

There's a little rain forecast on Sat morning, but unlikely to be much + gd/gs already....

She's unraced on anything better than soft right now, that doesn't mean she won't run on g/s or good in future, but its her seasonal reappearance + first run in open company.

I did think about it being her first run of the season as an after thought of my original comment, but you can't guarantee any worse ground for the races she is likely to be aimed at, so what, she never runs if it doesn't come up bad?

No, it's her first run of the season so not worth risking her coming back stiffer etc. than if it was on softer under foot. T

Totally different to running her at a festival where its good or g/s....if she run at that and wasn't 100% they can call it day for the season.

This is why the best trainer's succeed in my view compared to some that just run their better ones into the ground.

Why would a horse (first run of season) come back stiffer after a hurdle race on good to soft vs heavy ?
 
There's a proven direct correlation between the going and percussive damage to joints.

Laurina (like Samcro) was only entered because the race was reopened. You're going to give one of your best CH hopes the best prep possible and Ascot doesn't seem to fit the bill.

You're assuming its g/s.
It's sitting at g/s good in places......there's like 1 or 2mm of rain before race on some forecasts, some none.

So, much more likely to be good?

Horse has never run on anything but soft. Possible her being a strong big mare wont handle better ground, and might well come back stiff after having not enjoyed the ground.

Is it really worth the risk for a G2 hurdle race? IMo, no, bigger fish to fry.

But i do see the frustration.
 
My worry is more that Willie seems to angling for the Mares, a good win on Saturday and the owners wouldn't have settled.
And he definitely does it (persuade owners) that is, because him and Ruby did a proper job on Ricci with Vautour.
Not happy enough with his work for a Gold cup but Ryanair will be no problem, or something like that.
And being able to persuade owners not to run champions for most of the season takes a genius.
 
Why would Ruby want to get off Benie Des Dieux?

Anyone who thinks that there's a grand plan this early is totally deluded. It doesn't mean that Laurina will run in the CH (or the Mares) but Willie isn't going to make a decision on 22 February never mind 22 November.
 
Well he might be angling there, but what different will it make if she runs and bolts up by 20 somewhere else, if the owners want to run somewhere they will push for it.

It will be intriguing with these new owners whether they will bow down to WPM or not. Ricci had it easy, he had so many good horses, he was happy to listen + go where he wished.

End of the day, if she bolts up where ever she turns up next, it'll be difficult to resist the CH, as in Melon he probably doesn't hold something he can be certain will win or go close. Fair enough he did last time, but not many would have thought it.

For the mares, Mullins has a fairly strong hand already even with me thinking AJ back to her best is very much the one to beat.
 
I love Willie.
Just being Mardy cos she's not running Saturday.
but I am seriously worried he's angling for the softer option, which is fine if she's doesn't prove to be good enough.

But I Doubt she'll run in Hattons Grace, so she's unlikely to meet anything of real note this side of Christmas, leading to likely comments around the mares being more realistic for this year as we've not had the best prep etc etc. (being mardy again aren't I)

Don't forget he left Annie Power on the sidelines all season (twice), with nothing really wrong with her, A disaster in the Mares and the following season she only stepped in when Faugheen was ruled out, then pissed up without even having had a real race that season. He's not had best of runs with his superstars just lately and sooner or later there's going to be regrets, as they've left some races behind with some of them.

Yeah, and to top it all I even saw Laurina's price drifting today and hovered over backing something else (as it looked like she was not going to run) and dint bother. But decided to put her in a fivefold instead with two that won today and Might Bite & First Assignment on Saturday.

Thanks to you I had her in a treble with Luca Cumani''s horse tonight so I'm not as wounded add I could have been haha
 
It's going to be a strange one at the weekend. Should buveur dair run.
IMO we're going to have a horse thats still 2nd fav for the CH that's been beaten 3 races in a row. And his last win was in novice company against horses that would have no chance in a CH.

Interested to know what would be your views should Samcro or Summerville Boy beat Buveur D'air?

In all honesty I think BD is in a no lose, because if the unthinkable happens and he is beat, it's his first run of the season, that will be the line most will use, as some of us did with Samcro.

I'd love a shock from a betting angle but
I think summerville boy has no chance of beating him. I think samcro has little and it's the best time to catch BD, lay off after injury. Be a simular race to his trial against TNO imo. Geraghty will have to get at him but he'll be comfortable enough at the line.

Not beyond all realms the BD completely bombs and isn't the same horse. But I don't think it will be the case.

I'm hoping there's a reasonably priced special on BD to win the fighting fith and the CH
