Champion Bumper ‘25

Gameofinches Finally a bumper horse I can get excited about :indecisiveness: If he wins I might break even :glee:

He was pretty impressive then.... unlike Patrick not to push him to the line.... not sure I like that though, means he's 'good' but what will happen when they ask for effort when it matters ... and so unlikely not to need to come off the bridle in 'the big one'

People said the same about Jasmin de Vaux last year.

….Gameofinches 4-1 fav CB with 365.

After Gameofinches brought up treble @punchestownrace for @WillieMullinsNH he said: "His homework has been nice, he showed on track what he had been showing me at home. I was very happy with outcome & I’d imagine if he recovers nicely from that race he’ll go to Cheltenham Bumper."

I might just get out the bumper unscathed if that thing follows up at the festival :highly_amused:

Nice performance that.

Of course if Mullins runs this one in the bumper, does this mean it's not his best of the year such as Ballyburn and Kopeck?

That's the kind of confirmation bias I need to hear :triumphant:

Uptheinches

I’d say not. Ballyburn was owners decision. Kopeck was because he was a 4yo and wasn’t ready (was still only 80% fit according to Patrick when he did run). The sales bumper he won had a big winners check too.

Looks every inch the Bumper horse we've all been waiting to see.....................

….Gameofinches 9/2 CB in Hill ‘Road to Cheltenham’ specials.

Bit surprised they offered 28-1 TWAF, given how much they cut it when he was due to run at the weekend.

How many different favs has Willie had for the race so far this season??

When Aqua Force is announced as going to him, she'll probably top the list as well. Mental race.

Will just back the top 3 RPRs in small each way multiples once we know decs. Most likely they'll be a price on all of them as there's no standout.

Yep I took the original 33s and at one point I thought they were going to honour the price (and the 66 for Munny) then the dreaded refunds came back and was expecting 22 for Game and was very pleasantly surprised by 28. Munny staying at 50 was disappointing but after a year or two of woefullness (new owners finding their feet perhaps and taking a good look around both internally and externally ) I think Hills are starting to get their act together a little. I suspect they’ve discovered that it’s more profitable in this industry to offer a better product, reduce your margin but increase your volume and revenue.

He definitely wouldnt have been one for the bumper now anyway with the turnaround

Horse could well not even exist the amount of times hes been entered but not dec'd :emmersed:

The double red herring, one by Patrick (Ksar Fatal) the other by Ruby (Copacabana), only for Gameofinches to come out and do that :highly_amused:

I'm shocked so many followed Rubys words on Copa being bet of the week. I mean cmon, think about it:cower: he's putting up a bumper horse as his best of the week, the bookies will have made an absolute fortune off those words for so little. Be no shock to see you'll get a price about Copacabana now on the day I suspect.

He did the same about a double green horse for the mares novice i think a couple year back on the PP preview, everyone jumped on and then the horse didn't even run.

Night and Day was the horse. I remember watching the preview live and he put it up at 100/1 and within an hour had been smashed in to 14/1. I thought I was onto a nice winner and then never got entered :emmersed:

….Patrick Mullins;

Mullins told Sporting Life: "It was (easy) for Gameofinches, it's what we thought he'd do. I was a touch worried going to the start but we ended up settling in, which was great.

"He's a fine, big horse - he's 16.3hh - and he only came here in late-November which is never easy to do as we like to give horses plenty of time to settle in. Which is why we're getting him out as late as we are.

"Obviously the meeting got put back, which isn't ideal, but Cousin Vinny won at Punchestown on the Wednesday this week and went and won the Champion Bumper 22 days on, as the Wednesday that year was put back a day so he got 22 days.

"This fella has won on the Thursday so he's got 20 days. It's not ideal but it can be done and the fact that he's a six-year-old who has had two point-to-point runs and now a bumper, is a little bit different perhaps to a horse that's had their first ever run.

"We don't think he's short of gears, normally I like to give them a squeeze and teach them to quicken but because the race was so close to Cheltenham, I was very conscious of giving him as easy a race as we could.

"So I didn't get to really open him up and perhaps that is a little negative as well. But we've done it at home and we think he's not just a galloper, he has a turn of foot, and there probably hasn't been too many horses with his size and scope that won the Champion Bumper - you're probably looking at something like Florida Pearl. Facile Vega was as tall but maybe not as wide.

"He definitely has the ability to win the Champion Bumper, we'll have to see how he comes out of the race over the next week or 10 days but that's where we'd like to get him."
