Champion Bumper 2021

I'd rather see him go for a Ballymore myself. Will be interesting, but if there's a horse that suited WPM from the CPS crowd it was him.

He looks a good bet for the Ballymore now.

Rachel outplayed Paul today! Fair play to her, that won her the race.

I have a post-it not on my table reminding me to start siding with Paul Townend on Day 3 + 4
He normally starts banging in winners, maybe he's better on the new course... maybe he has better chances... not sure why, but something I cant ignore

An amazing couple of days capped with Sir G winning this race. In what was perfect timing my stream on my phone froze with about 100 yards to go with Kilcrut just starting to make up so ground. Only choice was to look at my mate’s faces and shouts on Zoom via my tablet (we were all on Sir G) which made it clear he’d held on. My one mate said he held on comfortably, not sure I’d agree totally with that when I saw the replay.

Superb ride slowing down the pace knowing Sir Gerhard's big weapon was his turn of foot and the horse is tactically versatile, luckily Kilcruit didn’t have a strong pace race otherwise I feel he may have done better of the two.

The jockey on the second failed to to understand the moderate fractions being set by Rachel, Townend got caught flat footed and the whole world could see that the 2l lead into the turn would suddenly open when she kicked off the turn, Townend had two rivals around him and when the kick came off the slow pace it was game over.
I like Townend and he comes across as a really likeable bloke but he is no RW, BG, or DR and the kicking that Ruby gave him at last year's festival was truly deserved.
I never had a bet in the Boodles but was amazed at the ride he gave Saint Sam, I had never witnessed anything in the horses previous runs this year indicating that he needed to be held so far back but the horse had to visit every postcode in Cheltenham to make his run and could be considered unlucky, jockey error once more.

I do wonder if Davey Mullins was irked in being second jockey to someone that is not as good as Mullins first jockey should be, we have all experienced this dilemma in the workplace when you have to leave to get the reward and recognition you deserve.

I don't ultimately disagree with the ride in the Bumper, but Willie was clear in that they were adopting a different approach to riding Saint Sam in the Boodles.

Think it was on ATR that Willie said one looks a Supreme and one a Ballymore horse. I cant remember which way round it was. Can anyone?
