Champion Bumper 2020

Asterion Forlonge is entered in a bumper on Thursday. He’s one of the Mullins PtP recruits that never made the track last season. It will be interesting to see if they continue down the bumper route or use this as a pipe opener for hurdles.

The Big Getaway is also entered despite being placed in two bumpers last season. I was expecting him to go hurdling and put him up as an AB horse. As he’s built and bred for staying chases, I’m surprised he has a bumper entry.

been waiting for him after I picked him up off last years dossier :)

Any potential that Malone Road is sent down the champion bumper route if he does reappear around Christmas time? I think he still qualifies to do so..!

I’m not entirely sure on the qualification criteria but it would be very unusual for any half decent NH horse to spend two seasons in bumpers, after all they’re bred to jump.

Bumpers used to be used as an introduction to racing (UK), Ireland has historically placed greater value in these events but the inception of the champion bumper to the festival changed the mindset of some/most UK trainers, but ultimately their careers will be 6/7 years long and a second year in bumpers would be seen as a waste...

Yep, he's qualified to run. Possible I suppose but unlikely?

Yeah unlikely I would agree but just a thought given the layoff/injury and dependent on when we first see him this season (if we do) along with the strength of Gordons Novices already.

Extremely odd how quiet they have gone on him, again Keiths blog today mentioned numerous novices but not Malone and the same in all last weeks stable tours.

Asterion Forlonge not in the betting on Oddschecker? Can only find it in the any race market on Hills? Entered on 21st for a bumper

Could be having one run in a Bumper before going over hurdles? Same as The Big Getaway who is running in the Bumper at Punch tomorrow.

Ferny Hollow
4g Westerner - Mirazu
Cheveley Park Stud
1- (point-to-point)
He won his only point-to-point by 15 lengths in February for Colin Bowe and we bought him for £300,000 at Cheltenham later that month. He’s a really nice sort and will run in a bumper at Fairyhouse next month.

Ferny the one i can't wait to see just interesting if they keep him to bumpers or over hurdles after one if wins first time up looking at what Mullins has said:confused:

I’d think, given his age, that they’d stick to bumpers with Ferny Hollow this season.

That would look to be the bumper that getabird and evoi allen have won in the last few years.

Iv just watched his ptp a few times, he has an engine, but he's not the best of jumpers to put it mildly, so you could mark his performance up in terms of his authority over the 2nd. The 2nd is with gordon and was a 120,000 store purchase for gigginstown with what he's done since being reasonable and showing hes not a complete mug.

For want of better judgement (I don't like backing when PP standout best price) and being a bit of a mug bet, I'll take an uneducated punt on him @33s and hope he shortens up before he runs, therefore cashout would be very close to money back. Cashout is Currently @ 60% on placement.

Correct, certainly not a fluent jumper in his point but he won’t have to worry about that this season. The other thing that convinced me to back him earlier in the season was the fact Cheveley are not afraid to go for the champion bumper either.

Looking forward to seeing Ferny Hollow, don't keep great tabs on the PTP stuff as much as other areas, so with the amount of you on here looking forward to him that must be exciting!

The other expensive Cheveley purchase with Mullins is Deploy the Getaway. He's not been mentioned in any stable tours but he has a lofty reputation as well.

They asked Patrick about the bumper horses last week the two he mentioned were Ferny Hollow and Power of Pause
