Ballymore Novice Hurdle 2019

If you had to pick a shortlist of just 3 runners, from horses that HAVE HAD A RUN... what would they be?

Thomas Darby - On my shortlist for the Supreme as well, form franked, trainer is going places and I think the step up would suit!
Commander of Fleet - Isn't a 2 miler... his bumper form still means he's of interest and was travelling strongly today, a notable drift in the market means it may not have been his day?
Champ - Not one I've backed, but Hugh Taylor has and he's better than me :p

I'd swap CoF for Eldorado Allen as his form is stacking up really well, and they have all been winning over further than 2. I'd prefer they went Supreme and have backed him but think he could be pretty good given the manner of his win and would like to back him for this also.

He's not in the market with B365, is it possible for someone to add him please ???

I’ve requested it for you

Didtheyleaveuoutto 33/1 is overpriced. It's 16/1 for the Supreme but I think its more likely to run here. That last win screamed Ballymore.

Thomas Darby is my number 1 for this at the moment. I really like the horse and think there is a fair bit of improvement to come, especially if they step him up in trip.

I'll repeat my boring point about Presenting progeny in the Supreme if you want? :highly_amused:

I'd have thought Ballymore too and it might help going that bit slower with regards to his jumping.

I'll bump it for you, page 3 - still completely right IMO

For anyone considering backing Didtheyleaveuoutto. As he's by Presenting I'd have always had him down for this race too.

DIDTHEYLEAVEUOUTTO (NICK GIFFORD)

Pretty Puttens never made it to the racecourse, but her half-brother Denman, who won the 2008 Cheltenham Gold Cup, certainly did. Pretty Puttens’ son Didtheyleaveuoutto, on the other hand, is a speedier type judged by his winning Rules debut in an all-weather bumper at Lingfield in November.

He covered the final two furlongs faster than all bar one Flat horse over the same C&D in 2017 – but he also possesses a huge stride, and it would be no surprise to see the family’s stamina manifest itself more when he goes over hurdles this season.

Didtheyleaveuoutto took on nine other previous winners for his second start in a Listed event at Ascot in December and again showed a smart turn of foot off a slow pace, and he was sent straight to the Champion Bumper for his next start nearly three months later, but found the soft going against him.

“The way he gallops at home he’ll definitely want a trip,” said Gifford, and given the horse’s stamina-laden pedigree, his future may lie in races such as the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival rather than the shorter Supreme.

Only quoted for the Ballymore with 365 and is 50/1.

Best price for the Supreme is 25/1 (quoted literally every bookmaker).

...and people complain ante post betting is dead ... :devilish:

50/1 was too big then, and 33/1 is too big now with 365!

Champ has been rated 150. That's some rating at this stage of the season for a 'novice'.
That stayers entry has to be a possibility, given his experience.

Sorry, what's the logic behind Champ going for the Stayers Hurdle again?

I can't see why Henderson would want that, and JP McManus surely doesn't really care? Ballymore, Albert Bartlett, Stayers Hurdle... if he's good enough to win the Stayers Hurdle as a novice, they'd run him as a 'racing certainty' in the Albert Bartlett wouldn't they? It isn't like a King George or a Gold Cup!

Also, Henderson thinks he's a two and a half miler and therefore the Ballymore is the "right trip"?

Altior didn't go for the Champion Chase when he was a novice and he'd have won that for Henderson, different owner obviously but G&P are sporting, I bet they'd have followed his lead if he really wanted it.

Tornado flyer has a couple of entries a the weekend over 2m/2.4m including the same race Getabird opened up at last year

Paddy Power cuts Tornado to 20's so it looks like both him and Blackbow are heading here.

Just an odd observation

But not one of the horses at the top of the market in August has been cut, all are available at the same or bigger prices nearly 4 months on.

Not anything that has been a stand out performance yet. I mean Champ is now installed as favourite for this race, but I have my own reservations about him ending up here tbh.

Still waiting on a few to come out as well, but those that have haven't exactly looked potential Ballymore winners.

The logic is his age and size and his obvious potential to go chasing next season. Meaning he will likely have just this last season hurdling.
The fact he has already ran in an open handicap.
The fact that more of that went there with less experience, although not technically a novice.
The fact his rating is high enough already to give him a chance.
It's potentially one of the four major races that is most competitive/winnable

But it will ultimately depend on how he progresses and what the competition is near the time, Mcmanus other horses form and chances and jockey bookings etc.
Altior would have gone for the champion if Douvan dropped out so that point is invalid.

They've mentioned challow anyway so it's almost certain they'll stay novice racing, and I doubt that will tell them any more than they already know, aside from another attempt at trying to get him to settle a bit better.

I was just simply summising and looking for an angle, applying my own logic.
Someone also mentioned the Lanzarote (can't remember who) so that also got me thinking.

Henderson said he’s done with handicaps now so you can probably write off the Lanzarote as he’d be top weight now.

cheers, I know.
Just was something mentioned on Tv immediately after he won the other day that got me thinking.

Is 6-1 big for My Way tomorrow ?
