Arkle 2020

Based on today’s performance and from what we’ve seen thus far this season, if Fakir comes here the he wins. His jumping was phenomenal - he was taking two lengths out of the opposition at every fence. The performance of the day. Whether Samcro would have won will never know, but he goes for the JLT not here. Whereas Samcro was tentative at his fences Fakir attacked them with relish and he will take some pegging back if he gets into a rhythm. My only concern would be his rounded knee action on typical spring ground but it was only yielding to soft today so you never know, he might be ok.

I'd also be concerned given he won't have the 8pds, and wasn't certain to beat Samcro who was sketchy over his fences.

Fakir could go from getting 8pds vs geldings to racing Laurina with a mares allowance, that would be a huge test IMO.

Yep, this is a big deal.

I have both covered, Laurina the more favoured but it wouldn't be horrendous is Fakir done the business, but I do think the Mares allowance could easily be the difference no matter how slick Fakir is.

I suspect both Samcro and Laurina will be going JLT, leaving the Arkle clear for Fakir. That’s my suspicion without getting too bogged down in the Mullins bingo.

True it's hard to know- even with that though, surely Melon + Laurina won't both go JLT, and Melon off levels round Cheltenham would have every chance!
Fakir was very impressive today, just think the 8pd is quite important right now!

Hi Jack - I don’t disagree that the 8 pounds will make a difference, particularly when finishing off a race but I’m not convinced it would affect his jumping all that much, which looks superb, and which is where he makes his major gains.

Samcro was way too tentative at his fences today. The Elliot team thought they could just nurse him around and outstay them - and to be fair, it was going pretty well until the 2nd last. Hopefully Fakir's jumping will demonstrate to them that Samcro needs to take a cut at them. personally think that with a clear round the JLT is at his mercy.

I think the fact they thought he could just pop them said alot.... had so much horse left. Seems to be back to his best for me.

In a steadily run race Samcro with his engine will always be there or thereabouts however when the pace increases his jumping under pressure becomes vulnerable , to me he is not a natural chaser whereas Fakir Doudaries is ( I know in receipt of 8 lbs )
Who runs where?
Fakir Arkle ?
Samcro JLT ?
Laurina I don’t know but have covered

PS
Just glad Samcro is back after Annus Horribilis , bad arse?

I think Fakir Arkle and Samcro JLT looks a certainty.

Wilie could have Melon and Laurina in either... tougher one to call that for me. But gut feeling is Melon Arkle and Laurina JLT

Think you are spot on there.

I really hope theres a rematch between them 2. Because theres alot of talk about how good fakir is, but samcro was about to go past him like he wasnt there. I'd be adamant about that. Horses make mistakes and fall, it happens. He jumped fine until then imo.

I'd rather the better horse with a bigger engine that can make a mistake like alboum photo, than the brilliant jumper who needs absolutely everything to go right and hope the ones behind fall or blunder.

Think people need to remember Samcro travelled well last season but failed to finish strongly. He’s still unproven unfortunately

Was all wrong last season so wouldn’t use that to judge him. Got to be on a WUM. Watch how he finished in the Ballymore. Was alright then :)

He was about to today, but ...... annoyingly will have to wait for another day to confirm.

Hopefully they'll meet again. Or laurina..
If he turns up on the day in the JLT. Will be the rare occasion I'll be having only 1 in the race.
And I'd be extremely hopeful of collecting.

Yep apparently he never scoped well last season
Not what they said at time though was it
Still unproven

Samcro v Laurina now that'll be fireworks. I'd side with Laurina....just.

I don't think they'll even meet pre chelt or at chelt, unfortunately for the neutral.
But I'd fancy samcro's chances.

Would be very willie like, to wait and choose the weakest race at the time, where imo it seemed clear cut that samcro would have won decisively today, if he makes it to the JLT. I think they'll fancy there chances of winning the arkle.
stick the likes of melon and tornado flyer in the JLT. And hope for the best.

Can't disagree, have been saying it for quite some time and backed accoridngly, although met with a bit of resistance.

Laurina is Willie's no.1 chaser, as with Envoi & Gordon I think the rest work around her, she is also Jared's no.1 too, so will want the best result for her IMO.

I thought it was pretty clear myself, and I am ready to cash the JLT for Laurina but feel I can sneak a little profit from it after her next win.

What was your verdict on the two big novice races at Fairyhouse on Sunday?

Noel Fehily, former jockey I was very impressed with Fakir D’Oudairies, who clearly loves jumping fences and looks a very good horse. You had to be impressed by Envoi Allen too. His bumper form was top drawer and he’s looked good in both starts over hurdles. I think he’ll be even better when he goes up in trip.

Micky Hammond, trainer Envoi Allen was impressive and looks a machine, he jumps well and it looks as though you can ride him whichever way you want. Fakir D’Oudairies jumped exceptionally well and has bags of scope for a four-year-old. He could be even better back at two miles. Over this trip it might have fallen Samcro’s way – his was a novicey mistake.

Patrick Mullins, jockey Samcro looks like he is back to his best. He was giving Fakir D’Oudairies 8lb and probably would have beaten him too. Envoi Allen looks like he could do anything he wants in life.

Amy Murphy, trainer Envoi Allen was a top bumper horse last year and showed he can also jump when making all in the Royal Bond for Cheveley Park Stud. He looks a natural for the Supreme. It would have been fascinating to see how Samcro would have fared in the Drinmore if he had stayed on his feet. Fakir D’Oudairies didn’t look to be stopping and may well have won anyway.

Kevin O'Malley, Tote spokesman Envoi Allen looks ideal for the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle and a range of top races in the future. He stands out a mile and backs up the imposing frame where it matters. Runner-up Abacadabras is no slouch, either. Drinmore winner Fakir D’Oudairies jumps like a bunny and looks an Arkle type, while Samcro’s jumping is a concern.
