Albert Bartlett 2019

First bet on this. Derrinross @ 20/1 B365

I know it's cliche but were he trained by Mullins or Elliot and not Philip Dempsey I think he would be a lot shorter. Other than At Fishers Cross and Bob's Worth this race tends to be a waste land for short priced favourites so happy to look away from the front of the market which includes quite a few Mullins/Elliot horses that remain untested over 3m. Derrinross is clearly enjoying his racing over 3m having won a Grade 3 at Cork beating Sams Profile who I thought ran well finishing second over too short a trip in the Lawlor's Of Naas Novice Hurdle. Derrinross then went on to win a Grade 2 over 3m giving weight away at Limerick beating Defi Bleu. Taken from Sportinglife 'The Limerick contest, registered as the Dorans Pride Novice Hurdle and formerly run at the Guiness Novice Hurdle, has produced a long list of high-class winners since its inception in 2003, with the likes of Weapon's Amnesty, Faugheen, Martello Tower, Up For Review and Penhill winning in recent season'.

I debated backing this now as I don't think his price would be too different but Dempsey has said 'if he gets soft ground he could run at the Dublin Racing Festival', so I decided to get on now as he won't be under the radar with a good performance there. He'll want soft ground at Cheltenham, but this relatively unexposed imposing 7 year old is definitely a player so happy to take 20/1 with the the AB definitely being the plan.

Derrinross has improved at a rate of knots for Philip Dempsey this season, following up his Grade 3 win at Cork with a Grade 2 victory at Limerick.

Dempsey has designs on running his improving stayer in the Albert Bartlett at Cheltenham but could take in the Grade 1 2m6f novice hurdle at Leopardstown should the heavens open between now and Saturday.

The trainer said: "He’s ground dependent but he’s come out of his races very well this season. He gets an entry in the Albert Bartlett and he’s also in the Grade 1 over 2m6f at Leopardstown but it’d want to be soft for him to go there. Hopefully the rain will come. If it turns up soft that’s where we’d love to be."

The latest from Leopardstown:
Press Release as of 29-Jan-19 at 09:27 Issued by Racecourse... The going is currently good to yielding (hurdle/bumper course) and good (chase course). Rain clearing this morning to give a mostly dry day. Remaining cold and dry for remainder of today and tomorrow. Rain, sleet and possibly snow moving across the county on Thursday. Clearing on Thursday evening and remaining cold and mostly dry for Friday and the weekend.

Topped up on this in advance of the DRF. Love this horses profile for the AB

Yeah these comments tend suggest Scooby has a point "Derrinross did it the hard way. He didn't jump as well today, Luke said he was looking around him, but I think he stepped up today. He's a nice horse. We'll have to look at Leopardstown in February and if we get a wet spring we can dream about the Albert Bartlett - Philip Dempsey, trainer

Ive had a couple of darts in this at big prices:

Kateson (only entry) - think 33s is big given the form
Aye Aye Charlie - 50s but ran ok against the best British stayers last Sat & unlikely to have anything of that calibre here - also has all important course form

I know they won’t be for everyone but at those prices I couldn’t resist!

Kateson is a really good bet IMO still. 33/1 too big. Not taken a big stake but I'm sure shes my biggest winner now in this race.

I'll lay some off though when she's the prove she should be.

She'll be tipped up on the preview circuit

Kev i'm a bit concerned that your potential biggest winner in a race is a horse you don't know the sex of :devilish:
Easy mistake as the name is a thrower!

That explains who added him and why hes down as a NR on the exchange for the mares novice.

:highly_amused: That wasn't me!

Apologies, an easy mistake to make, I'll not be able to get her out of my head now.:very_drunk:

Stupid name for a horse, there is another fairly high profile one that's similar.... and Lalor I think is a girls name

Absolutely delighted with that. Cof and rhinestone

Commander of Fleet back to his best today; surely goes for the longer race than the Ballymore

Very pleased! 6/1 SP too.

Send him here I beg. Any race 12/1 from September looks a lot nicer now.

This has to be the race for him surely!

It has to be here. Anyone want to buy my Ballymore slips? :devilish:

I know it’s a bit of a cliche but wouldn’t Ask Ben be a lot shorter for this if he was with a more fashionable trainer?

Dickie Diver entered in the same Kempton novice on Friday that OKC won before finishing second in last years potato race... a good sign that this is still the plan for DD.

Matt Brocklebank (sporting Life) has put up Kateson for this in his latest ante post column.
