2026 Novice Hurdlers

Be good to see them all race but El Cairos they'll ease into a maiden on the back of a fall. Rather than risk straight into a Grade 1. And you can somewhat understand why, despite it being a fairly tame fall.
Think this is where we have to remember Cheltenham isn't the be all and end all for a horses career. They can win a maiden, run well at Cheltenham without winning it then take a grade 1 later in the year, either Aintree or Punchestown.

Something to watch on Wednesday, though may not be so noticeable due to the track, but when watching a replay of the Bambino Fever race and more specifically Cornelienne as a possible bet, I noticed that BF was jumping right handed at her hurdles. Wasn't exaggerated but she was definitely leaning that way. Worth watching to see if she is straighter despite being a right handed track on Wednesday. Also hoping Cornelienne will be an e/w price as she was given a 'patient' ride behind Bambino Fever and would likely benefit from the extra couple of furlongs.

Does anyone know if anything has been said/announced about Bud Fox stepping up from Bumpers to Novice Hurdling this season. Just spotted I am being offered Cash Out for a bet on him in the Supreme.

He was entered in one recently. Doesn't look like he's been declared mind.

….P Mullins re Sober;

‘I thought it started poorly and got better as he went on! Obviously he had a good look at the first jump but after that was pretty good," the assistant trainer said.

“The race probably suited him as the Gigginstown horse in front looked very green or lairy and it turned into a bit of a sprint which would have suited him with his flat speed. But I was surprised he was as big a price for the Supreme and the Turners as he was afterwards.

“He’s a high-class horse and I thought he showed plenty on Sunday.”

Who offering cash out?

Not Denise unfortunately

365 offered cashout on Supreme (not bumpers) this morning. You aren’t getting much of your stake back for what it’s worth…

Nicky Henderson takes the wraps off two promising French recruits on a quality midweek card at Newbury on Wednesday.

The first Seven Barrows newcomer sent into action at the Berkshire circuit is Fire Warning, a rare Henderson-trained runner for prominent owners Rich and Susannah Ricci, who won on the Flat in his homeland before finishing second on his hurdling debut at Auteuil.

The five-year-old grey lines up in the second division of the Boyle Sports Home Of Early Payout Novices’ Hurdle under James Bowen, and Henderson said: “I like him. He had a couple of runs on the Flat and one over hurdles when he just got beaten.

“He’s a fine, big horse and he’s not slow. I would have thought two miles is enough, if he wants a bit further then he can go up to two and a half.

“He’s done everything we’ve asked and it’s time to put our head above the parapet and see what he can do.”

Half an hour later Henderson and Bowen will team up with Feel Gut in the Boyle Sports Best Odds Guaranteed EBF Junior “National Hunt” Hurdle.

Runner-up on his sole start to date at Auteuil, the youngster carries the colours of Joe and Marie Donnelly, for whom Henderson has trained two top-class four-year-olds in the past two seasons in the form of Sir Gino and Lulamba.

Henderson added: “I’m not sure you’re going to see that sort of firework!

“He’d be the same as the other horse (Fire Warning) – he’s a fine, big horse.

“He’s a big, scopey four-year-old, he’s got a big frame anyway.”

It was with B365. It was a 4 x Acca and they were offering me more than my original stake. No longer available. Can see via Oddschecker they brought him back in to their Supreme market at 0912 at 50/1 so the machine algorithm must have kicked in and they offered Cash Out until the humans realised what was happening. No longer being offered. I missed my chance and probably warned them it was there ! Own goal extraordinaire.

….Fire Warning cut to a general 16-1 Sup ahead of his run today, Hills still offer 20s.

He's going to want to be winning pretty well today, against 120 & 117 rated rivals.

Thought he'd be well shorter today in the market?

I would have thought so too, not just because of the vibes but because of the opposition.

I'll be surprised if he is Nicky's number 1 though, coming out this late.

Do we know if Nicky has ever trained a horse for RR before?

Think he had one for him,it was t up to much if memoey serves me well..

Thanks both👍

So wasn’t a successful partnership……so why have a horse with Nicky now?……Nicky’s getting on a bit, there are up and coming UK trainers like Pauling, Murphy and obviously Skelton…..

RR’s trainer is Willie and he has mentioned in the past that the Prize Money in Ireland is better etc and apart from Royal Pagaille with Venetia then all his horses are with Willie……so why this change ?…..FW isn’t joint owned is he?…and I know RR used to live near Sevenoaks so location can’t be the reason

Just seems strange

Maybe wants to win a champion chase knowing how good Nicky is with 2m horses, both hurdles and chases?

Agree re the up and coming trainers potentially given a chance but Nicky is still capable of producing top level outcomes for owners.

Agree Nicky does know how to train a 2m Champion Hurdler and 2m Champion Chaser, of that there no doubt……but you could also say the same about Willie

Just seems strange and could be the sign of things to come……or not😂

Very true, can’t argue with that, not for RR though.

With the golden era he had maybe sees it as a missed opportunity.
