2026 Novice Hurdlers

worth remembering that Tony can be a gobshite at times  :ROFLMAO:
although he has got the qualification in the bag and like others have said it's a race where Willie is unlikely to have much.
The doubt would be that they think he didn;t stay well enough the last day in carlisle so prefer coral cup.
But only Danny will have the best idea.
Looked done for toe at the finish to my eye, and probably not too arsed with winning either.
Not an easy task weighing up the form pf the qualifiers as many are up to no good.

Did WPM say anything post race in the Lawlors? Just Saint Baco only put out to 25/1 for the turners which was a big surprise and was 50’s back into 40’s supreme with Denise.

Cashed the turners as although you want a bit of turn of foot in the turners you have to stay to a degree, that screamed he doesn’t want a trip at all imo.

Mullins added: "Sober had a run in a novice hurdle just to get a run into him before Royal Ascot which was the same sort of prep we gave Absurde. And I thought he did well to win as he didn't have much jumping experience at all.

"For me, he sets the standard. He had a little break after Ascot but came back in and he's schooled well and has been working well.

"Free Spirit is a nice type but it's going to be very hard for him on his first run for us, especially in this deep (Grade 2). He was second in Auteuil and then won afterwards in Dieppe but it'll be hard for him.

"The fact that Sober has a couple of runs for us under his belt already and that summer training too, it looks a good opportunity for him and hopefully we can get him onto Cheltenham after that."

With how this season has gone upto now - kinda regretting laying off 6k off of Sober now :ROFLMAO: 🫣

Well the one thing the race isn't, is deep ... there's three runners.

Bambino - ‘I think she needed the run when she was beaten on her hurdling debut at Naas and I think that outing has put her right. I’m expecting a much-improved performance from her this time.’

Turns out it was either a case of not staying or not good enough, or a bit of both. For now I'm going to have him as not staying the trip and therefore back to 2m could suit. He's in the 2m race at the DRF, but that's only just over 3 weeks away.

Back out to 50's for the Supreme, wouldn't put anyone off a nibble at that price! Going back in for a small bit myself.
He's beaten before they even turn into the straight. There's no way he's beaten there because he's not stayed. He's either shite, or the drift was for disconcerting reasons

Pathetic isn't it. Would get more out of a morning breeze up at Willie's. We'll learn zilch apart from well being.

Road Exile may well be better suited to 2m than both of Willie's. He's already had two races so will strip much fitter and his form behind Blake was franked by the winner who just failed to win the Royal Bond. Can see him jumping off quickly into the lead and making all.

Baron Noir straight to Supreme. Must have chances in what looks the most open year ever .

If anything, it shows how really poor the price for El Cairos is right now.
I would allow some improvement for hurdles, jockey and trainer upgrades but fuck me.
I have backed him mind you.
Baron Noir should most definitely run in a handicap given his likely mark.
If they really think he is supreme worthy then he has 20lbs in hand.

Andy Holding mentioned yesterday on his Supreme preview that whilst El Cairos looked good on the eye travelling to the last hurdle, even if he’d have gone on to win by 8 lengths his figure wouldn’t have been worthy of being a Supreme favourite

Agree.
I'm going to resurrect my Sober Glory ticket if anyone thinks El Cairos is a worthy Supreme fav 😂

Port authority beat murat by 17 lengths, and nobody's talking about him for the supreme. If el cairos had stayed up, he wouldn't of got anywhere near that winning distance over murat.

Winning distances aren't everything, as el cairos was ridden in a way to be produced late, so it's hard to open up a huge gap if you only hit the front before the last, but the form still wouldn't be worth a huge amount. The hype around doctor du mesnil is what has people rating the form higher than they would have done if he was just beating murat.

Could simply be a year when the Irish Novice form is average at best.

Said that to a couple of mates yesterday, Irish novices for once in many a year just might not be up to much.

Depending how the betting goes prior to the 2m grade 1 at the DRF, if talk the talk is well fancied might have to do a related double with no drama this end, albeit from bumpers. Granted talk the talk is Irish but not from the usual stables we expect.

Sober Glory entered Wednesday by the way in a cracking looking race at Newbury.
