2026 Novice Chasers

The scilly isles is a proper head scratcher for me, so watching brief. Will be exciting to see who prevails, though I do think sixmilebridge is being overlooked somewhat.
Very good race. Whoever comes out on top will be a proper Grade 1 horse and will have to be taken seriously in March. Good to compare the English/Irish form before the festival as well. We don't often get that opportunity.

Very good from Sixmilebridge. Joe Donnelly's rotten luck continues.

Glad to see kitz and Paul ok. I called it, may have had a last minute but if change on the bridge in the end. Jumped like a stag all way. Kala don’t jump well enough for me, for all she has a chance in the mares.

Sixmile with the form round Cheltenham too, be interesting to see what Fergal has to say.

She has no chance in the mares

Shes not good enough

Seen it 3 seasons now, she wins a few races before xmas that are weak or she has race fitness against a mullins horse then tapers off

Yeah she definitely doesn’t seem to improve as the season progresses she goes the other way.

Beating Miami Magic by a couple of lengths isn’t form worthy following at Cheltenham in the graded races.

66-1 NRNB arkle for 6 mile is worth having

Maybe the 'Kala will go Mares if she goes' for the festival was a good pointer that they were worried her form would continue into the Spring.

Will need to come up deep in Arkle for him to go. Fergal favours BANC. Gallops, travels and Jumps all day so sounds the right race to me. I was really impressed by that .

Was there any post race comments regarding targets
Trainer said gut feeling Banc.
But entered in both
seemed keen to go cheltenham no matter what and ruled handicaps out pretty much
66's massive value IMO. not so much the banc price IMO
Would only take the arkle looking a softer race vs the Banc and i reckon they'd go arkle and use his jumping.

Kala had every chance but not good enough. Beaten by a very good one though who took 11 lengths out of her with his jumping apparently. Mares Chase if anything for her but she's likely to find 2/3 too good you'd think.

Yeah from that performance would be better dropping back and use the jumping than stretching out as he won't be able to use his fluency to his advantage there as will have to harness the enthusiasm

Think I'll leave both

He'd be 16-1 max if he lined up in the arkle even if the others all stand their ground.
The Irish challenge looks weak for various reasons in the 2 mile division IMO
Banc looks deeper as it stands.

I suspect ground conditions at Cheltenham will have a big say.

Yep, for sure, but we know it'ss be on the soft side for the arkle.
Just a price thing really, as no way an unbeaten chaser rated over 150 after today who front runs and jumps like that would go off bigger than 16-1.
If one of the big hitters drops out he's single figures.
Mambonumberfive is fucking 16-1 FFS and this horse has better form for certain.

…Mullins;

FD; ‘He probably didn’t impress a lot of people in Limerick at Christmas but got the job done in testing ground. I think he will improve a lot from there and I’d be happy it will take a good one to beat him on the day.’

JDS; ‘He was very disappointing at Christmas so I think most onlookers will put a line through that. I’m hoping it wasn’t the ground as I’ve always thought he’d go on soft and heavy going. If he produces his best, he has a great chance of getting a good share of the prize-money.’

Kaid; ‘He will probably have to improve a fair bit to match a fully wound-up Final Demand however he has the ability to do it. This is his first time wearing cheekpieces over fences but he did win with them on at Punchestown over hurdles and I could see a much-improved performance from him.’

Those Mambo races have produced stacks of winners, some winning two or three on the bounce, nothing SMB has beaten has won a race yet, only good formline would be todays, and given the comments on Kala Conti here that could turn out to be dubious.

I do like SMB though and least we know he acts around cheltenham, which really is a massive positive for his chances, be nice for Fergal to break his festival duck too.

He’s higher rated and won a grade one. An excellent trial for future Cheltenham winners albeit when the turners was around
66-1 vs 14-1 NRNb is no discussion
All about the price really
Probably run in banc anyway 😂

Of course, price dictates all, but the Wayward Lad is an Arkle trial, can't remember the last scilly Isle winner to double up.
At 66's I'd agree he's worth the cover, just the fact he's never been tried at 2 miles would be a bother.
If he goes RSA it'd be very interesting, would they hold onto him for a circuit or just go from the front, be a ballsy ride from the front with no 3m form in the book.
