By all accounts they treated it like a race between the 4 horses, Danny Mullins mentioned it on his tote video. Basically none of them could get close to Kopek, obviously it wouldn’t have been the exact same but the horses don’t know this when they go on these away days. That’ll hopefully get away a bit of keenness and freshness for March. There's a few reasons tbh:
- Kopeks hurdle form is much better, including the C&D win in the Supreme.
- loved the chase debut of KDB.
- in not keen on 5 year olds in the Arkle
- I think Lulamba isn't an out and out 2 miler
The only reason he's such a big price is the lack of a second chase run but they gave him a good spin over fences the other day.
I also have full confidence in WPM getting him there in peak condition, and if that happens, i don't think Lulamba gets close to him.
I’m in the same boat as yourself FM, his debut, although not perfect, just left me thinking nothing will live with him in a 2m chase. He had to make his own running so PT was obviously having to keep a hold of him but the last 3 or 4 fences when he gave him some reign he absolutely pinged them perfectly. I’d imagine something will set a decent enough tempo that he doesn’t need to make the running in March and I can see him making his move down the hill after jumping the third last, can’t see lulmaba being able to go with him at 2m pace on the sharper course.
Edit - obviously the prep is far from ideal having just the one chase start but we know he’s fighting fit after the small op etc and no doubt WPM will have him spot on for the Arkle. If his prep hinders him it’ll likely be jumping inexperience and plenty will be correct in the fact he’s only had one run to oppose him.
