…..2026 TREND ANALYSIS for reference;

Irish trained 12 favs or jt favs in the last 22, only two won

However Irish trained have won six of the last seven

N Henderson hasn't won since Juveigneur 2005. Most recent three runners all PU

Only two of the last 23 won last time out

Six of the last seven winners were novices

None of the last nine more than 11 previous chase runs

11 of the last 14 BHA rated between 137 and 145

The last 21 raced at least twice that season

18 from the last 21 aged 7, 8 or 9 years

15 of the last 20 best RPRs within last two runs, three of the exceptions were JP owned SP less than 9/1

P Nicholls and W Mullins yet to win. Patrick Mullins yet to ride the winner

This century only two handicap chase debutants have won

Eight of the last 11 went off at SP 10/1 or less

Chambard the only FRE Bred in the last 19 winners

Only one winner in 19 had F or U that season

Five of the last 10 wore tongue ties

IGNORING 2021 WHEN PROFESSIONAL JOCKEYS RODE DUE TO COVID

Irish based amateurs have won nine of the last 11

Jamie Codd won four, Derek O'Connor two and has been four times a runner up.

Summary

This race was changed to the New Course in 2009. Race Distance - 3 miles and abt 2 furlongs, half a furlong longer since 2014. Upped from a 0-140 to a 0-145 in 2012. The last 16 renewals have been on the New Course. With the NH Chase now being a handicap, we may not see as many novices in this race.

Will be aged 7 to 9 years unless a JP certainty or won last time. Nothing placed older than 10 unless Henderson or Pipe trained. Winner to be a novice, placed at a previous festival or ran in a h'cap chase at the International meeting. No more than 10 previous chases. BHA rated anything. Unless Elliott trained, last race will have been in a handicap. Not necessary to have won a handicap chase this season. Has competed in at least a G3. Unlikely to be a handicap debutant unless Elliott. Best RPR achieved within previous two runs, unless fancied and probably McManus owned. At least two runs this season but may not have been seen for months. Either has won a NH race over 3 miles or has Graded class place form over hurdles or fences. Will have finished at least 3rd in either of previous two runs or is under 10/1. Unlikely to be from Ditcheat or Closutton. G Elliott and other Irish trained punch well above their numbers including any recent moves to UK. Check for recent wind ops. Claiming jockeys have had success recently but The Doc is still usually worth at least half a stone. Laying beaten favourites last time out still pays. Not more than 11 previous chases.

Might be little bias in there as I'd backed him @ 40s when he was beat in Gowran and PP over-pushed him out post race :ROFLMAO:
I've just had a maximum bet on him for the NHC.

I shouldn't have been stubborn before he ran at the weekend and taken the double figure prices on offer, but i gave him no chance of getting a mark of 145. Now I'm not so sure at all.

Will certainly be funny if he does get the 145 or under :ROFLMAO:

It's a tricky one isn't it? It's not as though they have purposely hidden his ability running at two miles the whole time whilst he has found himself in some of the hottest Beginners Chases of the season. Irish Panther won with an RPR of 147 and is likely to go Arkle or even Champion Chase, Jimmy Du Seuil won with a 154 RPR. Koktail Divin got a 157 RPR for his win over Xmas. Gowran Park was the first time it felt a drop in class for him and he ran with a bit more credit, beaten 15 lengths. finally he is upped to 3 miles in a grade 2, jumps poorly but stays on 'eyecatchingly' for second. He has always been ridden out the back even at 3m over hurdles so it is not as though tactically they have been fiddling him either. Just remains to be seen now how much the UK handicapper takes note of his hurdles rating considering he has 5 chase runs to his name.

It's just a disgrace really init. We see schooling in front of our eyes from the biggest connections in the game and they actively get rewarded for it. There's just no justification behind that 1lb drop beyond it being obviously dodgy. Jeriko was bad enough but this in itself was a disgrace.

Sure the mob will be out with the knives for the next set of small connections that has the audacity to do this.

The Wallpark finished 4L infront of the 135 rated Western Walk & was 6L behind the 151 rated Oscars Brother who was conceding 5lb to The Wallpark.

142 looks about right, with a big P.

Yep, Handicapper just done his job.
But connections are definitely taking the piss with this one.

We can't change it so rather than complain about it get on the train and ride it.......................
Too late now at 5s. I’d be more annoyed getting beat at that price. Shame I was slow to the party. I will just join Q at the pisstake party now 😂😂

After drifting like a barge in the betting. I get the hands are tied to an extent, but he's obviously not tried even remotely. The more you reward them, the more it gets done. And it winds me up that we see small connections hammered for this whilst the biggest in the game get away with it every year

I'm hoping the other pisstake runs in this as I've not backed Jeriko, but am on Wallpark for the NH chase and ultima.

Jeriko IMO is partly handicapper fault though as no reason to drop him the last day.

As a comparison though Jeriko is still 10lb above the hurdle mark he had when beaten on the pertemps.
Whereas the Wallpark in Ireland at least is 10lb below his hurdle mark when he came 3rd in the stayers.

That's why I've backed one and not the other.

If Wallpark gets what I think he'll get and is put on something like 147 then he'd have a great chance for an Irish horse in the Ultima.
I just don't think he'll run.

Depends on how JP wants to split them all.

Smokescreen also a possibility. When everyone had all eyes on Percival for the Kim Muir, he got mullered to the same mark as ITWYTK who snuck in unexpectedly. See what they do.

I have sympathy for the handicapper as it's not an easy job but there's no other set of connections that are getting 3lb off Jeriko for what he did. And I don't understand why they felt the need to drop the Wallpark when it was nailed on that they're taking the piss.

Isn't this an issue with the system that an owner like JP can have a Stayers third and run him down the field over fences so that he can be leniently treated? Majority of other owners would be looking at quicker returns and successes but that doesn't stop them from potentially taking a long term view of things as JP is.
