2026 Champion Hurdle

I took the 40-1 when he went that big for Anzadam, but he needs a big turn around (at least 10lbs improvement) I reckon and we've been here plenty times before with Mullins willing something to happen and coming up with plans and theories.

My best guess is that he is what he is...
a mid 150's horse.
He hasn't really improved since beating beacon edge.
Admittedly both runs have shown flickers of ability but it's an ask to expect it next time out I reckon.

Walsh made a bit of the fact Lossie and Brighter didn;t go clear of Anzadam and casheldale.
But she was up with the pace the whole way and when anzadam shat the bed and skipped a few clear, she was the one who had to reel him in and then burst past him. That increase in pace half way was telling and her ability to lay up with him and go past easily won her the race as Brighterdaysahead could not match this injection and just ran on at the same pace and closed on Lossie near the line.
Casheldale probably ran the most efficient race IMO and ran to his rating just about.

I think they'll likely be able to hold on to Lossie for a lot longer on the different course next time and she should win easier, although she might have a few more runners to contend with.

I asked who he was expecting not to turn up !!
I know, I was saying that even if most of them do turn up, he could still be second fave, depending on his drf run.

Lossies probably the only one youd need not to turn up for anzadam to be short in the market, as she'd automatically make him second string and probably a double figure price. Without her and with Paul on, only one id say for certain would be shorter than him is con hill, just because of his popularity and following. He could start shorter than both new lion and sir gino if new lion beats sir gino in the unibet 🤷‍♂️

It's not hard to workout who might not run ahead of him in the betting is it. If he won DRF then he'd be beating Lossie and Brighterdaysahead, both have the Mares option (almost certain for Lossie in that scenario). And Constitution Hill every chance doesn't turn up... They'd only be two left ahead of him in the current market

Those two are supposedly meeting beforehand as well!

How he runs in the FF
How he runs at Xmas
Now it’s how he runs in Dublin
Three strikes!!
Out!!!!
Or 3rd time lucky?
I suppose it was three strikes and out for golden ace, marine nationale, and inothewayurthinkin then too when none of them won in they're first two or three runs in open company last season? 😈

I'm not saying im incredibly confident anzadam will do the same as those three, but writing off young horses who are still learning on the job against more experienced horses is always silly. All that I'd be looking for is signs of ability and improvement from run to run. Last run wasn't a major improvement on Newcastle, but I was personally more impressed by him, especially his jumping and cruising speed. Just needs to rein it in a bit. That may not be possible as he may just be headcase that won't ever do things right, but it's too early to know that.

Yes I understand the possibilities surrounding the DRF
Maybe he has other ideas?
I’m interested in the thoughts behind the comments.

What actually happens though is Lossie smashes him out of sight and he turns up in the County... While Lossie goes on to win the Champion Hurdle (Irish and proper)

That’s why I said 3rd time lucky.
As I realise it is a possiblity.
I too don’t write off young horses, just saying it as it is thus far.
Let’s see how he gets on in DRF.

Your posts sounded as though you thought it was silly to think he could end up so short in the betting for the champion hurdle and could only happen if there was loads of non runners.

Hence my staunch defence 😂 apologies if I picked it up wrong.

No worries, I can see why you would think that , but it was a genuine question.
There’s two key races to come involving the Irish being mentioned, and also the TNL and SG clash plus the ongoing saga with CH.
I would be amazed if every horse involved in all that turned up in the CH.
But which ones?

Its possible they all run. If the market is right and sir gino beats the new lion, new lion may still run as jp has nothing else. If lossie beats brighterdaysahead, both may also still run as gordon has wodhooh in the mares, although oleary would make the decision I'd say.

But if new lion beats sir gino then I'd say sir gino might not run, as they'd be disappointed and may start saying they'll look after him for chasing next season. Likewise if bda or anzadam beats lossie then lossie would probably go to the mares. Con hill is anyone's guess, although is sir ginos beaten then his chance of running obviously increases.

think you could make a case for him to be 4th fav imo.

Sir Gino and The New Lion have a closely run race at the International, then if Lossie wins at the DRF.

Unless he finishes a close up second at the DRF I don’t see him shorter than 20/1 imo.
