2026 Champion Hurdle

Be interesting to see how well Lossiemouth performs this week…. anything short of an impressive win, and you’d image the mares hurdle becomes #1 target
Anzadam wins, then what? Got the dilemma of the two Donnelly horses again.

It annoys me as I think they are still waiting to see what they do with con hill

It’s like Sir Gino is still ‘second string’

I can just see Con Hill putting in a clean round of jumping and looking good in the international - then what will they do, who would Nico jump on

Crazy to think Sir Gino could still go into the QM with only 1-2 jumps over fences! I can’t see it, i think it’s more likely that con hill is reverted to flats or retired, and sir gino still over hurdles this season with a view of reverting back to fences next season

I don't think it comes down to Constitution Hill. Listening to Henderson speak after the race I think it is the genuine belief Sir Gino is a better chaser than he is a hurdler, which is understandable considering how well he jumped in the Wayward Lad, even if ignoring the overall form of the race. It's a nice dilemma to have. Do you go Champion Hurdle which may not be his best discipline but looks a weaker race and he has more experience, or go Champion Chase which may suit the horse better but could be a tougher race and where he lacks experience.

SG will definitely go CH after today, regardless of what anyone else does.

Like most of these situations, a lot depends on other horses rather than sir gino himself. They're not giving up on constitution hill by the sounds of it, and in an ideal world hendeson would like con hill in the champion and sir gino in the champion chase, but getting con hill back might not be possible. Anzadam going and beating lossie may also influence it.

I don’t think you can say that. If Anzadam wins comprehensively then I suspect that would definitely make the owners think twice. Of the Mullins runners this Christmas, those who are running for the second time are generally (obviously not all) putting in better performances e.g. Narciso Has, Kargese etc. There is no such think as ‘definitely’

The man from Del Monte say "never under estimate the power of Wille Mullins' influence" ;)

See what Anzadam does first. He is the key now to the top of the market.

...or perhaps Gordon and Brighterdaysahead

….Mullins re

Anzadam;
He’s been fine since the Fighting Fifth at Newcastle and Patrick has elected to ride him. I think he’ll improve plenty from that outing and on the evidence of Golden Ace’s run in the Christmas Hurdle, that puts him in here with a chance.
It will be interesting to see how much he comes forward and while I’d rather a bit more rain for him, the ground should be alright.

Irancy
I think he might need a longer trip than what he’s getting on Monday. He might need a change of tactics too, but a stronger pace will suit him in this. It’s going to be tough for him though.

Lossie;
She’s going to start favourite for this and comes here in tip-top form. She skipped this race last year to go to Kempton and I think she’s in better form in herself this year than she was then. I’m hoping she will be the one to beat.

Willie said he didn't have a lot for tomorrow but that Lossiemouth will do him. Never mentioned Anzadam.

To put it in context. Willie said he’d nothing much for tomorrow. Gary said “well you’ve got Lossiemouth” and Willie responded “she’ll do me” or words to that effect. It wasn’t like he volunteered her over anything else.

Any one going against lossiemouth tomorrow ? Or is she just too good for these ?

I'm not against Lossiemouth. Desperately want her to win to claim her CH spot but I do massively fear BDA. I reckon they'll have her spot on and go all out for the win again. This is her CH imo. Cashdale Lad will do the pacemaking this year round. Anything close to last year's win and she'll blow the race apart again.
