One for all the stato's out there. Re The New Lion, he's yet to run over 2 miles over Hurdles (even his Bumper run was in excess of 2m albeit by 125 yards).
Has any Champion Hurdle winner not run over the minimum distance over Hurdles in the season prior to becoming champion ?

And most of them were against UK trained novices, who were pretty dire or likely to make out to be average’ish stayers.

When TNL actually came up against the Irish, it was against two staying types on plenty fast ground

Thought ruby gave faugheen a great ride in the CH, ensuring he made good use of faugheen staying power

Yep, I was convinced Faugheen also didn't run over hurdles over the minimum in the season prior to his CH win but forgot he won the Champion Novices Hurdle at Punch.

I have looked back and can't see any ?

I don't think anybody has asked the question, but what happens to his career if he tips over again in the Fighting Fifth? Not talking about our bets but his career. Do they take him to the flat and let him winter off training or do they go again?

I would convert him into a staying flat horse. He would string them all out half way around.
